What did you do to your bike today?

Trouble is there isn't any chain out there that will stop them taking the bike if they want it. :(

True, but good lock + chain + alarmed disk lock + steering lock + alarmed bike + garage is going to be a struggle ;)

Saw a GS1200 closely today, it surely is a big bike. I might be able to flat foot it, as when I sit it should go down a bit. But that surely must be comfy on longer distances! Then I had a look at CBF500 and it felt so tiny in comparison, I then went over to my bike and was like "aww cute." :p

For waterless cleaning, I'm going to give this a go, all of those waterless washes seem to be £10 or more...

Might get some of that, there are weeks when my bike doesn't need a water wash, but that seems to be the only way I can get it clean. Hopefully this stuff does the trick for those smaller cleans.

Shame about the delivery on Wilko

That stuff is ace!

That's good to know! I always prefer to buy products tested and confirmed by others, when I try something it's not good usually...

Edit

I've the Almax chain 16mm 1.5m with squire lock and it looks solid, certainly heavy! :p

I've Wilko in every town across Hertfordshire, surely you can travel upto 10 miles to get this product?

After my mate had his new (to him) Hornet stolen last weekend, with bolt cutters that went through his Oxford lock like cheese, I've invested in the daddy of chains!

Arrived today and it's an absolute monster. 19mm think links. Apparently the only chain not cuttable with 42" bolt cutters. I leave my bike in Leeds city centre most days when commuting so this will give me more peace of mind!

The immobiliser 3 series is also apparently cropper-proof at 16mm, just takes less time with a portable angle-grinder or torch.

The trick is not to rely on one thing though, any one lock or protection can be broken.

If you have an alarm, disk lock and chain then they're going to struggle to get through all of it without somebody noticing or running out of time
Also, buy a house with a garage, one of the more expensive options but so worth it :p

Hmm, trouble with the Xena alarmed disclock I have is it keeps going off on its own, ended up having to take the battery out. :( But I agree, use an almax chain and Abloy PL362 padlock, xena disclock(that looks alarmed!) and Abus granite D-lock to hopefully deter the scum.

First I've heard of this waterless washing stuff, I hate spending hours rinsing, washing, degreasing, drying cars/bikes - what are they like on properly dirty stuff?

They're currently building new houses on my street, there's lots of mud and when it rains puddle of them cover my bike... It looks like I was offroading, will do pictures before and after tomorrow. :)

I need to do some shopping, I got rid of the rust on screws around the bike. They were bothering the small percentage of my imaginary OCD. :p WD40+Wire Wool for cleaning dishes did the job

Are you attaching the Xena at 6 o clock on the disk? Its least sensitive at that position. I do find mine goes off if it's particularly windy or rainy, but no more than every other car it seems :p

True, but I leave my bike in the city centre, and whilst I wouldn't put it past thieves to turn up in a van and try and cut a chain, I can't see them getting an angle grinder out, with all the noise and sparks. They would hopefully nick the bike parked next to me instead with a cheap £30 chain on it!

Useless, they're for surface grime only.

They cut through it very well though and leave a lovely shine.

Vaguely bike related, lost the little retaining spring clip out of my screwdriver in my Halfords set which means my bits fall out all the time (Oooer mrs) so treated myself to a Wera ratchet driver.
Definitely getting old as I'm quite excited to have a ratchet screwdriver again!

This weekends plan is to give the bike a proper clean and probably break out the ACF50 to start getting it winter ready.

My plans of cleaning the bike today went down the drain with all that bloody rain... Tomorrow when I'll be at work till 21:00 the weather cast is saying that'll be sunny all day long and over 20c... FML :(
