What did you do to your bike today?

im going slightly insane with no bike :(

Just ordered some black plastidip to spray my hugger, was going to use a CF wrap but I don't have the patience to apply that without it ending up looking like a blind man done it and I figure the matte plastidip is going to blend much better than the current shiny black.
 
I've an issue with my front break, as I push 1 piston inside the other is coming out. So I can't actually push all of them in. The pistons also get stuck causing the break pads to slightly touch the disc every now and then... I think the breaking system needs bleeding, I can't trust myself with that.

BTW I guess the costs of going to a mechanic are still cheaper than what I would pay for a garage rental. I mean 40-50 quid per month adds up to £540 per year.

I'll give it a go on... Friday. By the time I get home on Thursday its going to be dark... winter is coming and that sucks! :/

That's a normal hydraulic reaction, you have to push both pistons in at the same time to get them to retract back into the caliper, it's a bit tricky with the caliper off. Also sometimes helps removing the reservoir cap to reduce the hydraulic pressure slightly.

Sounds like to me you have a small amount of brake dust and crud built up which needs cleaning up, can do it yourself with a tin of brake cleaner and an old toothbrush, I can't imagine they need bleeding.

Watch this vid, not the best but gives you an idea what to do.

 
Thanks, I already used a whole can on cleaning the pistons and they're nice and clean. So the only thing is either the seals? or the breaks need bleeding...

I'm 95% sure they require bleeding.
 
If they feel spongy or lever comes to the bar then possibly yes, but they don't just all of a sudden need bleeding, there will be a reason as to why there is air in the hydraulics.

I think I got some air in when I opened the brake reservoir whilst I was cleaning the pistons. It doesn't come to the bar, but it is spongy. :(

Bleeding is dead easy, it's not hard at all - all you're doing is pumping the lever, and at the same time releasing the bleed nipple slowly, then tightening back up before repeating many, many times.
 
wedge the other pistons with a socket,thats what I do and then push the remaining ones back in

a smear of red rubber grease might help

EDIT: you wont let air in by opening the reservoir,only if you let it go empty

@clovis why doesn't it fit flush?

It's not empty, fluid spilt a little bit and I quickly closed it. It might be worth taking it to the mechanics? I can't see any leaks though, could the seals be on their way out?

Clovis, my tail tidy doesn't fit perfectly either...

its only if it goes completely empty/below the drain hole that's in the res

the fluid might be old,it degrades over time,seals will be fine as its a newish bike,pity your so far away I would have bled them for you
 
Similar to my thoughts, it felt like a bike that you had to be riding hard all the time, not a bike you could just bimble around on. Seat was quite hard, front suspension bouncy, would be great fun but not really for an everyday bike.

It's very cheap though - could replace the front and back suspension and it still wouldn't be bad value tbf. Are the ergonomics horrible for 6'+?
 
Well bikes been found but honestly i'd be shocked if it wasn't a write off. Got the hornet insured again for now (until that gets stolen too, id imagine).

Got a crime number now so need to ring insurers up tomorrow to say its been recovered.
 
its pump,pump,pump,pump....hold it,twist nipple till you feel it go soft,tighten nipple then pump,pump,pump again...hold it twist the nipple till you feel it go soft then rinse and repeat (oooh sexual)

all the time keeping an eye on the res so it doesn't run dry/top it up to the fill line

I use an old jam jar and a length of tropical fishtank air pipe,fill the jar up with brake fluid halfway and keep the end of the pipe submerged below the fluid level in the jar at all times

Yes but its a struggle getting to it as there is 2 other bikes that use it too.

Only other option would be to put it near the main doors in the customer car park. There is nothing to chain it to there but there is a lot more activity with people walking in and out, might put them off with too many witnesses.

Nicking someone's bike and them having to pay hundreds of pounds replacing ignition barrels and locks for them to have a joyride is pretty @#£%ish.

I met a guy who had a garage full of racing bikes.... He heard the garage door go up in the middle of the night and just let his two Rottweilers out.... Needed to hose down his driveway afterwards. Seemed fair enough to me.:D
