What did you do to your bike today?

R&G crash bungs fitted. £225 quid option so I was hesitant buying them when I first purchased the bike but after suffering a knock down I seriously regret not doing so earlier might have saved my radiator. Although not as good as the crash bars I originally wanted and usually more expensive unlike the bars they're actually insanely simple to fit and as I got them new on ebay & I only paid £70 so result.

I'll never ever purchase a bike again without budgeting and fitting it with crash protection.

Next job Wire wool for rust spots, then a clean & ACF-50.

Did you get full crash protection that price? I paid £50 for my main pair from R&G direct!

I keep meaning to buy spindle sliders and the engine case slider.

crash protection is debatable imo, some can actually bend/twist the frame and they can bend and still split the fairing

as for mpg I think im getting around 45mpg on my old zx6r,finally got around to topping the oil up today and it swallowed a whole litre of oil and still needs more!!! wish I didn't leave it so long now

depends what type you buy though,i had some mushroom type ones on mine and the bolt bent on them and it still split all my side fairing

idk how well the r&g ones hold up,the engine covers are decent, the carbon fibre type

No just the crash protectors. They're really expensive for the NC700 no idea why

They're for low speed drops, they just protect the fairing in those situations.

Yeah, it would have protected my radiator and perhaps saved my mudguard from a scrape.

R&G on an er6n that clamed aroudn the frame i saw crush the frame bar as they bent.

my ones on my cbr just ripped off, the one on my vfr ripped off too in the rpoerp crash

but they did save the fairing when at a junction stopped with my foot down the missues on the back slipped off (i have no idea how and dragged me off with her) it fell gently ish as i tried to lay it down as i went saved the fairing.

they basically just exist for "it fell over when i put my foot down moments" the rest of the time they rip off or flip the bike.

oh race rails or speed rails might be an idea :p

but again any high speed drop theyll probbly flip the bike or **** the frame anyway.

I'm talking far, far ahead when it comes to replacing the CB400, a few years from now minimum I'd hope - it's just that when stuff starts to go wrong, like the clocks (LCD or circuit board) you just can't get spares being a 14 year old import. It's on 31000 miles now, so in 2 years time that'll be around 50k, and it doesn't exactly get an easy life :D

An MT07 would be a decent commuter too, as would a left-field choice of the Yamaha XT600z - 60mpg and a 23l tank means a 300 mile tank range.

Like I said, it's the only thing they had on demo that I wanted to ride - I'm curious about them, we'll see if they can gain my interest :D

Such high mpgs here! Do you guys do mostly motorways? Never go above 70 or 5k rpm?? I'm struggling to get anything over 40... unless I have a fuel leak..

My Speed did 62mpg down the motorway and was getting 50mpg+ daily in Scotland which would be a mix of twistys, fast, slow, etc. and I wasn't trying to get good fuel consumption at all! It absolutely loves sitting at 80+ and will get ridiculous mpg for the engine/power etc. at those speeds.

Average commute mpg is around 40 at the moment, but that's because it's short. Still, 40mpg for such power and fun is ridiculous :D

Ouch! Looks like it has some sort of fancy bracket which I guess brought the price up. Even the R&G hugger for that bike is ridiculous at £100. I can get a pure carbon fibre hugger for mine for £120!

To people above, yeah, they are for your typical commuting drop/slide really. I don't expect crash bungs would be great on track at high speed, as said above it'd probably just flip the bike or rip off, especially if the bike hits the curb.

Yeah my CB400 gets best mpg on a long run (like any bike) and doing up to 50mph as 70mph is 7000 rpm, but the plus side of that is 30mph in 6th gear is 3000rpm :D

Just filled up now after a normal commute, 5 and a half days + a few miles out to the Honda garage on Sunday, got 55mpg on this tank which is my overall average over 9000 miles.

Yeah that's why I was so pleased to have only paid £70 quid. As for the rear hugger I'm still on the lookout for a cheap one although not a priority right now as first I'll need me some sexy handlebar muffs.

Not my bike but went off roading on a KTM 250 yesterday with a colleague, first time off roading in 12" deep sand, it was awesome! Didn't fall off once and learned fairly quickly, getting used to it sliding and feeling like it's going to spit me off was difficult!

Aching like crazy today though

Tucano Urbano neoprene muffs. Accept no less :D

Doesn't matter what you look like when you're wearing summer gloves and have toasty fingers when it's near freezing outside ;)

Mine haven't come out yet, hopefully I won't need then for a few weeks yet, heated grips have been warm enough so far with my summer goretex gloves.

With regards to mpg chat..

Worst mpg I have had on modern bikes was a '99 CBR600, rarely ever see anything better than 39mpg from that. These days I struggle to get below 50mpg. The XR averaged 47mpg on a trip to Italy. Street Triple averaged 54mpg, GSXR1000 did 53-55mpg and the 1290R was averaging 67(!!)mpg when I picked it up the other day (I expect that to go down rapidly very soon :D). I just ride normally, bit of acceleration now and then, between 70-80mph on motorways.

Anyway today I fitted the 590 Garmin mount, wired it in to the KTM and waxed the matte finish panels. Oh and I ordered the decat pipe, cannot wait to fit that :)

I heard you shouldn't wax matte finish? Or did you get some special matte wax stuff?

They are supposed to be rough/dull (matte) and a wax will just try fill in those imperfections so you might not get the best finish.

You are right, you shouldn't wax/polish matte finish. But swissvax do a special wax just for matte finish 'Opaque' 50ml, bit expensive but it only needs applying 1-2 times a year. I got it originally for the matte graphite Street Triple I used to have.
