What did you do to your bike today?

Oh yeah it's OK, but as you say I wouldn't have spent my own money on one :D

The MT09 is nice, but when I test rode one it felt like a bike that you had to be riding hard, it wanted to be thrashed! The throttle issues might be sorted now but it didn't feel like a bike you could use every day for commuting and town work. On a sunday blast it'd be great though.

If you have a flat/level bit of ground there's nothing wrong with a paddock stand (waits for Kreee to suggest an abba stand ;)). Removing it from the stand is the only hard bit, but you just push on the bike as you release the pressure on the stand, to guide it to the left rather than the right.

You don't want an Abba stand for oiling a chain, I use a paddock stand for that.

Bikes gone. :)

I hadn't considered the er6f/n, have seen pictures of them, MT-09 is too much for me as a first bike, I don't need an 850cc bike lol, a 600 will do, though for a 850cc it's not that powerful, the 600 I want has more BHP than all of the ones I've looked at.

The bloke who bought my bike said have a look at a K6 GSXR 600, said they are awesome 600's and perfect first bikes.

I don't even bother with a paddock stand or abba stand,i just roll mine back a little and oil the chain that way,its just quicker

@clovis they are ok,they are all in the same league tbf,r6/cbr rr

Suzuki tend to be cheapish though compared to other manufacturers, paint finish ect

Rubbish, an MT09 would be fine as a first bike. Engine cc means very little these days. I test rode a Monster 821 as my first bike after passing my test , in November in the damp and loved it, was in sport mode not long after taking it out :D

600cc Il4's tend to have all the 'fun' stuff at the top end so down low they are easy to ride, whereas a triple or twin will have a lot more torque low down, which for me is more fun, no need to thrash it into illegal speeds to have fun :D

Anything around the 90-120bhp mark is a perfect first bike, and it's your wrist that controls the power.

Removed the stock exhausts.. i dont wether the difference i can feel is weight or a stronger air/fuel ratio but by jove she is livelier

She is coming along quite nicely, just need new fairings and a paint job. And some high level link pipes :D

I bet it sounds nice with those termi's on it:p who you gonna get to spray it?

@clovis a 600cc is perfect imo,maybe after a few years you'll want a 1 litre machine but tbf I had more fun on a 600

I was looking at a MT-09 for the summer when my DAS is complete but after a lot of people saying it's too much for a beginner, I started looking at the 07's.

Do dealerships let new DAS'ers test ride? If so, it wouldn't hurt to try one, esp to see how tame mode B is...

I know earlier 09's seemed to have throttle issues at low speeds, but people suggest that a G2 throttle tamer tube removes the throttle snatch issue. Anyone had experience with using one?

Depends on the dealer, some will want you to have had your licence for a year, others it's no problem. A lot of it is down to insurance.

I've only had my licence a year as of October and in the past year I've test ridden loads of bikes - monster 821, MT07, Suzuki v-strom 1000, GSX-S1000, MT09 and MT09 tracer and an NC750x.

Nope, nothing to pay, most places just ask you to put some petrol in normally - unless you stack it! Most places have about a £1000 excess. So just don't bin it! :D

I think he means expense, totally overkill to spend a few hundred for stand to just oil a chain.

Out of interest, why not?

I always use mine for oiling the chain without any issues.

A paddock stand literally takes 2 seconds to put in place, making it far, far, far quicker than either the roll method or using the Abba stand.

That'll be the sound egging you on, you won't really notice the other changes.

not if you don't have the hook/bobbin fittings, the cup fittings that hook under your swingarm like mine tends to mark it so I don't like using it

@Paul dont you have to sign a form? think that's all I did but its been ages ago since I test rode anything

Yeah you have to sign something, basically to say you agree to the £1000 excess and their terms etc. and they'll check your licence (you need to get the licence share code off the dvla website), but that's pretty much it.

If it's a test ride on a used bike then that's much harder, not many places do used bike test rides I've found. But a dealer with specific demo bikes, not a problem.

Hmm that's not very reassuring :p how long did you have the bike for? 1 day? A weekend? Week?

Couple of hours max, I'm sure some places do longer test rides but most are a couple of hours. Plenty of time to get an overall feel for a bike.

That excess is pretty normal, although on the Suzuki roadshow in the summer it was only a £250 excess. I wouldn't bother test riding if it was raining, or if it was very cold, unless you're doing stupid stuff then the chances of you binning a bike in 2 hours is pretty low, unless you're an idiot like the bloke who did 150mph or whatever it was on a demo bike and then uploaded it to youtube haha!
