What did you do to your bike today?

I'll check my battery tomorrow and make sure it's pulling enough, anything under 10 means the battery is kaput, but I won't rush into buying a new battery until I've tested it.

The bike is now in charge outside and I'll leave it on all night, turned it on after an hour and the bike started first time but only once, I reckon that cheap charger I'm using with the optimate cable may be doing more bad than good! Ordered an optimate charger now too.

Fair point, I have heard of some chargers going to the dark side and killing batteries.

Problem is if it is the charger it could have now killed the battery too

Will not be on the bike for a good few weeks (this is not in the same league as Fireskull!)

Most likely did it a few months ago and the pain has been on and off since but was really bad after my ride at the weekend. Finally got it seen to and I've fractured a small piece off the stylus process of the ulna, apparently. Very sore and tender rather than outright pain.

Ouch, so just got to let it heal or some surgery??

Speaking of my injuries.... my knee is getting worse and worse and the crunching noise.... not good -_- going to try and get referred back to the hospital to have it looked at but I think it will be more surgery, just keyhole I think this time....

does smarten the tank up

been quoted £280 for valve clearance check/adjustment plus the cost of any shims needed, might go ahead

They (and I) want to avoid surgery, so a few weeks of rest and limited movement to see if it can reattach and remain attached. If not then it'll be surgery time.

Need to be fit and ready to depart for the Alps on 4 June!

Sorry to hear about the knee - hopefully keyhole won't be too invasive and disruptive.

Missed my delivery so my multimeter is now sat next door and they've gone out lol... My battery is back to being fully charged but I'm leaving it on charge now until I get chance to use it.

Could you not take a day off work to take the valve cover off and check them? 280 is very very steep

Yeah that does seem steep, you'd expect to pay around that for them actually changing any shims as thats a lot more work involved, £280 to just take the rocker cover off and stick some gauges down... they are making a killing :p

Fine if they do change and shims, but if not, thats an expensive inspection.

Hi all,

Does anyone have a 2 cylinder carb balancer I could borrow in the Milton Keynes area? I need one for the 27th. Bit reluctant to spend £30 quid and only use it the once. (Trying to get back on 2 wheels and got a GPZ500s to service, get the 33bhp washers out and get through an MOT)

Also chasing some 37mm forks that are not pitted or I will have to rechome the current ones.

cheers

It was 2 hours @£70 an hour to check, plus another two hours @£70 to Whip out the cams and change the shims, plus the cost of any shims needed

It's beyond my spanner skills or I'd do it myself

@clovis pretty sure it should be around 14v with the engine running

Ok battery fully charged, I got a voltage reading of 12.69, that mean the battery is perfectly OK?

sounds about right when engine off, maybe a little low, does it stay at 12.69 or creep down slowly? also when you start engine does the reading go up (fluctuates)?

£70 an hour that's almost main dealer rates!

It was that place in Walsall that ish used, need to do something as it keeps missing when it warms up

I might have a go myself but not sure yet

Last time I had them done was at streetbike 50.000 miles ago

Edit @clovis yeah 14v tells you your rectifier is working correctly
