What did you do to your bike today?

After I got back from my ride I whipped off the forks...

Dirty buggers they are!

And they're now all stripped down - sprinsg out, seals out, the lot - the lowers are hanging upside down and I'll leave them overnight so all the old fluid can drain out.

I wanted to check if the bottom damper rod bolts would undo without an impact gun, they came apart dead easy, probably only took 10-15 minutes to strip each fork. The old oil smells a bit, it's pure grey - not sure how long it's been in there tbh.

The seals have definitely had it. Tomorrows job will be to clean the lowers and inner tubes, and reassemble. :D

The headstock paddock stand is great, dead handy for jobs like this.

Friend bought this for his 50th treated himself has all the goodies he loves it.

Well I got out late in teh day as the sun went in and temps dropped, but left Holywell and did a loop over Denbigh Moors, then along to Bertswy then A540 to Abergele and back... was nice just to get out... was flippin cold though but that helped the engine pull like a train. All in glad I went out...

Rebuilt my forks. New all balls seals in, new hyperpro fork oil and springs.

If you want to know what the inside of your fork looks like, here you go :D

On the left side, from the bottom up you have:

bolt at the bottom that attaches to the damper rod
cup which the damper rod sits in
damper rod
rebound spring
main spring
washer
spacer

and the then the cap.

In the middle, that's on the outside of the inner tube, inside the outer leg:

bush (already on the bottom of the fork inner
second bush that sits in the top of the fork leg under the seal
washer
seal
clip

new hyperpro spring on top, old spring on the bottom

The new fork seals are proper tight, like a.... :D;) Makes you realise just how loose and sloppy the old seals are.

Just did a quick test ride and she's niiiiice :) Seems a lot smoother, no crashing over bumps and less dive when braking. And of course, no oil all over the fork leg.

Didn't take that long to reassemble, overall not that hard a job TBH. I gave the inner tubes a clean with a scourer, took all the rust off. And hanging the lower legs overnight worked a treat, they were sparkly and clean in the morning.
