What did you do to your bike today?

Today i did the breather mod on the triple.
You can't really tell from the picture but those holes are only about 1cm long, its a wonder it could breathe at all like that.

That piece of plastic covers the intake hole to prevent anything large getting in there and potentially damaging the filter.
The reason why most of it is closed off is something to do with noise regulations but you can actually buy it from Triumph with the slots fully open.

Done a similar mod to my SV last week, not noticed much difference apart from the noise it's good noise :D

You won't notice any difference.... the days of poorly designed, restrictive intakes and free 10bhp mods largely ended in the mid 90s. The intake on your bike will be exactly the size it needs to be to give a nice, still airbox full of unturbulent air.

Bigger intakes do not automatically equal more power. It's why these mods are very rarely backed up with any dyno evidence.

Had some brand new rubber fitted, Bridgestone Battleaxe A40 £165 fitted, best deal ever, and some freebies.

Plus it was a great ride to the garage.

Agreed. :) Obviously you need air and fuel for combustion, but then acemastr did say a blue flame is air igniting, which it can't do unless there's fuel present :D

it's pretty simple really - unburnt fuel in the exhaust has to meet air at some point, whether that's early in the exhaust due to a leak or air injected, or towards the end with air being pulled in. :)

Question though - why do BMW's have that distinctive pop (and flame occasionally) when the throttle is closed? It's either an auxiliary air system or they're just dumping fuel into the exhaust for the hell of it :D

OK OK, not totally just air, but extremely little fuel. I can get flames out the back for a good few seconds if the exhaust is hot hot hot like yesterday (all blue). The R6 does have an air pump that dumps air into the exhaust on overrun 'for emissions purposes' which is why I get the pops and gurgles. People take them off the get a more accurate AFR on dynos and less burbeling, I quite like it

Given my CBR is a 96 model I might have to look into this :D

All packed (for real this time) ready to leave for Scotland tomorrow. A bit excited :D

Dunno what's going on with the exposure in the picture.

This chinese lamp gives out decent amount of light, enough to do small things on the bike. I'm off to bed, tomorrow is my day off, so time to go for a little trip. :D

You need a set of twin 500w halogen floodlights, you can signal passing aircraft with them :D and they have the side benfit of keeping you nice and warm :p:D

New air filter and part of the air box. Old air filter was broken in the corner, dumping all sorts of crap onto carb 1. cleaned it up and put a K&N filter in it's place. The idle has smoothed out now due to the non broken filter I recon.

While I had the rear subframe expose I got the wire drill bits out and sorted out some problem spots and sprayed it all with the VHT paint I had left over from doing the downpipes. Did the grab rail as well which has made it look so much better

Well I bloody hope that Lucy doesn't over heat again soon. Removing all the fairings was an absolute nightmare to get to the coolant reserve tank!

While it was all off I did a complete coolant drain, flush, clean up and top up.

Got my new chain and sprockets delivered today (along with a puncture repair kit from wemoto for a tenner) so that's Saturday/Sunday sorted, depending on the weather as I want to go up to Box Hill/Rykas for the MT tour and go ride an MT-10 :D
