What did you do to your bike today?

Found out where a rattle has been coming from, I actually thought it was a bearing starting to go in the engine as that's where the noise was coming from & I couldn't find any thing loose, until this morning when I spotted the exhaust clamp on the collector box had rotted thru.

Gave both bikes a wash, the Tuono was almost clean already but the rear wheel was covered in chain lube fling, gave it a coat of carnauba wax for it's winter hibernation.

The CB400 - ahh, the life of a winter hack :D

Before:

And after a good dose of SDoc100 gel cleaner and a jet wash:

The front brakes need a clean so i'll do that in the week seeing as I'm not back at work now until the 3rd January :D It's not sparkling but it'll be filthy again a week after I'm back at work.

Had a moment when starting the CB400 after it was washed, it was turning over but would not start - after a minute or so it was obviously drying out a little as I was getting 2ft flames out the exhuast :eek::D

Startup finally and left it running for a minute or 2 and it's fine again, obviously some water got in somewhere - that much unburnt fuel doesn't half make for some big flames! :D

Fingers crossed if i can put a couple of grand away before Autumn next year I'll be able to get £1000 or so for the CB400, and I'll swap it out for a Transalp, 2008-on 700 model. If not a Transalp, then maybe a CBF1000 which are a grand or so cheaper.

It's had replacement clocks so not 100% sure but it's around 45k miles. I bought it on 20k miles so it's done 25k miles in the 2 years I've had it.

So by the end of this summer it'll be on 50k+ miles. It will have earned a retirement I think :D

Went to replace the front pads only to find that the allen head that keeps the pad retaining pin in place has stuck itself a goodun. Go round to the other side to find that the flat head cover on the other side is in just as good. even tried to use a chisel to turn it...but it chipped the chisel blade instead....

Things like that are why I replaced all my calipers with reconditioned ones and all the hardware with titanium bits at the start of the year, should save me any headaches.

Checked my Hornet's chain slider today. Was filthy, so took it off and cleaned it & the swingarm, the gunk made it look like it was almost rotten, but all that came off and it's in perfect condition, so that went back on.

Also, the squeak coming from the back brake is worse now, it'll squeak loud enough at a particular point when wheeling it that you can feel it through the handlebars. I cleaned the rear caliper, pins, pots the other day which didn't really help. Hopefully rear disk isn't warped, it's practically brand new.

I've got a feeling that's what's causing the vibrations as well. Thought it was the chain slider which is why I did that, but it's all ok there.

Changed spark plugs, oil and oil filter. Then adjusted the CCT and it sounds a lot better now.
Then removed the chain and changed both sprockets and realised I don't have a chain tool to fit the new chain so that'll have to wait until I can borrow one.

My rear caliper moves side to side as the bolts that hold it in place are no longer round and are squaring off. I wonder if you have something similar?

A ducati with anything but a termignoni exhuast is just wrong in my eyes

If I can get myself a Transalp next year it'll be getting a decat pipe and end can, the difference from stock is huge!

Should be enough to wake up the sleepy commuters :D

1098? Good choice on the exhaust, I can't imagine those ducatis with a different system. :o

848. Same really, almost went for a Leo Vince on ebay as couldn't see any Termi's but it would always nag at the back of my mind.
Fortunately this one came up and I snapped it up

What's the engine braking like on the Ducati? You use brakes much?

Fitted a Touratech Brake Pedal Extension to the bike, and then fitted a Drift HD 1080 to my Helmet :)

Oh yeah and received my new BMW Navigator 4 from Garmin after the one that came with the bike had issues connecting to any PC and other things wrong.

Garmin were extremely helpful and efficient.

Bad news is I discovered that the nice shiny, but used, Akrapovic Titanium exhaust that came separately with the bike isn't actually for my model and doesn't fit :(

Apparently it's uncomfortably loud with the decat and a decent exhaust. I've swapped the exhaust out on mine but haven't decat'd it....yet.
