What did you do to your bike today?

Sprayed my clutch cover, not perfect but better than Suzuki manage to achieve for their factory finish!!

I think Suzuki just use a couple of coats of halfords own brand rattle cans for their paint :p

Looks like you've done a good job :) as always, time will tell. What paint did you use?

The original paint didn't have lacquer on it, I did three coats of primer followed by three coats of black and then put the cover in the oven @100c for five minutes (I used engine paint and primer).

The finish seems to be rather tough but still flexible, hopefully it'll last a while.

@Rossi I used VHT SP148 LIGHT GRAY PRIMER & VHT SP906 SATIN BLACK paints

Well as some will know i bought IC3's SV650 from him for my son . He has been commuting on a 125 for the last few years and we have been slowly restoring a Vfr400 nc21 for him . But i made the decision a few months ago that given he is off to Uni for 3 years having such an old bike that requires constant fettling with no easy access to my workshop would not be in his best interest . So the SV was bought and repaired and today with a light workload and some semi decent weather we went out for a 60 mile run to iron out any issues and also for me to get some miles on the MT10 given i had only ever ridden back from the dealer in torrential rain .

Got my tyres scrubbed in and a few things adjusted more to my liking . No issues so far and the only annoyance is the left to right slack in the throttle which is driving me mad but i have some derlrin in the workshop so will machine up a spacer to take up the slack . 1-2 issues on the SV . Rear brake reservoir seems to be leaking and although we removed the bend from the subframe its still slightly bent to the right by a few degrees . Not noticeable really when parked but when following you can see it so will get that adjusted . Front brakes need another bleed and drop the forks through the yokes to quicken the steering a little .

But altogether a decent shake down run for both bikes and nice to get out with the lad and not have to worry if he could keep up . Sv sounds great and highlights how quiet the MT10 is . Cant decide atm which can to go for but i may just put a decat pipe on the standard can in the interim till i decide .

Feels so weird seeing my bike, did you get new rims or got the bent ones refurbished? I did hear the SV popping quiet a bit, after you took off. First time I heard my bike, 2 people rode it but I was riding theirs so didn't have a chance to hear it without any other noise in the background. :p

Get an R6 throttle tube, it fits perfectly and there's no slack.

The throttle on the SV is fine . its the one on the MT10 . And its a ride by wire thingy so a spacer will have to do :P Most people would not notice it but it bugs me .

Parts on the Sv were front and rear wheel , speed sensor , rh switch gear , rh throttle and housing and new throttle cables . New brake hoses

Work done . Swap both wheels and tyres . fit new wheel bearings to used wheels (Just incase) realign front end . replace bars and all bar controls . Replace both brake lines as to short for normal bars and 1 line was chaffed . rewire rear indicators . file down deep scratches in pillion handle then sand and spray . Straighten rear subframe and respray . Replace all the plastic rivets holding rear plastics on . bleed front and rear brakes tidy up some minor wiring issues .

Last few things to sort are fix leaking rear brake . Tweak rear subframe . Remove and respray oil cooler and straighten radiator brackets and make a cover for it and it should be job done

Sounds like it needed a bit more work than I thought, at least I know she's in good hands. :) How's your son finding it? Some love the SV, others hate it.

Interesting, throttle on my MT-09 is the same- very sloppy, but also feels like the tube is too big for the bar. For a while I thought something was loose on the front end over bumps until I realised the knocking sensation was the throttle tube.

I've read a lot of reviews which mention the throttle being a bit rough and snatchy. Though later models, the XSR900 and the new MT-09 are fine.

Throttle response is very poor (mine's a "revised" 2015 model), but I'm referring to the actual physical throttle tube rattling around. Doesn't really affect throttle response but feels odd as you can feel it physically rattling over bumps.

My S1000RR has absolutely sublime throttle response- better than any bike I've ridden carbed or otherwise. Even closed to open throttle is perfect. I was thinking if BMW can get it right, why can't Yamaha, but I guess it's a £16K bike versus a £7K bike....

I think the new Street Triple 765 RS has the best throttle I've ever used, and I've tested all of the big (naked) hitters.

The S1000R was excellent too.

The RS is okay but not great ride-by-wire. Found it very unresponsive when blipping compared to the older 2015 street. The superduke had a similar issue.

I guess it's just ride by wire in general, seems a bit sluggish.

It's much better than my 2012 Street, which is better than 2013-2016 ones.

Blipping will always be lacking in modern machines as they limit the wasted fuel when the clutch is in.

I can't stand loose throttles, all my bikes have correctly adjusted throttles with zero slack/play in the throttle cables. Not sure how I'd like a slack ride by wire throttle that you can't adjust...:(

I'm the same. It was quite odd riding the street and superduke that had a little bit of play and unresponsive throttles.

I think it's only you who didn't like it :p
I liked it, but the longer I owned it... the more I noticed how slow it is, compared to other bikes.

A stupid overtake on a single carrigeway sometimes was a bit dodgy, it accelerated nicely to around 70, than to 100 a bit slower and after 100 there was nothing...
That must be a great feeling seeing your totalled bike back on the road (whether you own it or not). I know I'd be well pleased. :)
It is, I didn't want her to be parted out... I regret selling it, after it left tbh. That exhaust note
