What did you do to your bike today?

Well not much progress with the bike - it made it to BMW Motorrad in Bristol, but there's an 8 week wait before she's looked at - as the Service guys are running at full capacity at the moment; I'm just thankful my old friend managed to overrule the bike getting rejected - when I can walk ill have to go see him (it's been a good 10 years!).

My claim is unfortunately LV vs LV, as both the TP and myself have the same underwriter - so I'm expecting shenanigans at some point! My appointed solicitor via Bennetts (Bike Assist) turned out to be as useless as the ones LV tried to pair me up with - not sure if I mention above, but after a call with them on the 26th of September I wasn't filled with confidence when the guy I spoke to pretty much said my claim wouldn't go far as I'd chosen to filter past an empty junction.....

Nonetheless I duly provided them everything they asked for then heard nothing again! I had to chase them up to ask of they were even still handling it; at which point some emails arrived with the official instruction for them to act for me - decided to leave it for the time being and have gone back to see if White Dalton can take my claim on instead. They'll cost more, but I reckon it's worth setting the sharks loose imo.

As far as my injuries are going - leg is getting there slowly, another 2 weeks of the massive boot before I can try to weight bear, the spine is due to be scanned in November; so for the time being I am wearing a brace when not laying down - also on morphene and other strong painkillers. Safe to say my biking is done until 2023... seen as I'm #*&*Ed and the bike proba ly won't be fixed until the New Year.

Leg shot I took when in trauma on goodness knows what:

Whatever they gave me, I didn't even feel them set the bone and put a cast on - I was also enjoying more gas and air journeys :D

Edit: also, forgot - they also think I might have signs of osteoporosis in my pelvis, which is supposedly rare for someone of 41 - I'm just hoping that the damage from my 2008 bike crash is all they're seeing... I'll find out in due course on that one.

You really should mate, the utter balls to the wall torque is like insta power.
I do miss mine a bit.
All the best for healing up sooner rather than later and getting back in the saddle and having fun again :D
I do miss a characterful engine, that's for sure - but tbh, the Beemer is miles better than I'll ever be... just have to wait and see what happens in 8 weeks time.

Might at least blag a test of a 1290 - that's one thing I've hardly done in my 15 years riding: test rides. Think I've only ever done two, one was back in 09 when I was thinking of chopping my R1 in for a Daytona 675, and the other was a 765 R before I purchased the RS!

Pretty much all the bikes I've had, I have purchased without riding them first, which is odd I guess - though I often spend ages reviewing them, and sitting on them in showrooms.... so I'm usually pretty happy with what I've chosen.

A mate of mine often takes out bikes just to try them, with no intention of buying them - the last he took to Fish Hill after getting an extended test :D

Proper bloke this. Mangled in hospital, bike potentially written off, more concerned about his TMNT socks :D

Get well soon dude, might be a silver lining if you get the opportunity to get something new!

To be fair the rod is settling in now, so I'm slowly getting more mobile - though I can't put full weight onto it; reckon that'll be another month or so.

The worst bit is my back - it don't half bloody ache when the meds wear off, and as they're addictive, the GP gives me something daft like 4 days worth - so I'm forever having to request more. Going to try a tablet form of morphine next (that lasts longer) and some stronger muscle relaxant tabs - but the chest brace needs to be worn for another 8 weeks!

Now I have White Dalton on my claim, I am hoping they can say for certain my spine was damaged in the bike crash, as the only word I got from doctors was "its not new, but it's recent...." this was the day after being admitted to Trauma, so I'm hoping "recent" means a month ago... They'll certainly have plenty of x-rays, CTs and an MRI to look into.

Sadly the dashcam hope from the bus was dashed (hurr hurr) - they only keep footage for 14 days.... and a SAR under GDRP takes a month; so I doubt I would have ever got a copy. I was hoping that would confirm my recollection; the driver either indicated last minute, or the car behind them was so close I couldn't see the indicator - I've replayed the event so many times and I'm sure I wouldn't have missed a thing like that!

Oh well, all a waiting game now - the bike probably won't be estimated until late December, so not sure if that means my insurer will force me to go down their 'approved' route to speed it up (though BMW Motorrad is apparently approved), and the driver apparently has a witness - something I couldn't get as I went from road, to Ambulance, then back out to a crash scene devoid of anyone but my bike. Just hoping this witness isn't anti-bike and claiming I was speeding/doing a wheelie/being a menace to society etc etc etc.

What I do find a shame, is the traffic lights (on red) I was filtering towards, had a biker waiting in the oncoming lane - you'd have thought they might have stopped and offered to be a witness :(

Loooovely :D :o Did they put your leg in traction or anything before setting?

The spine damage for the claim is a strange one, so they don't want to pay out for it? That seems a weird one that it has to be 'new'? so anyone who has an accident with existing injuries/metalwork they can't claim if it gets further damaged??

As I recall between gas and air trips, they put it in something that resembled a paddling pool for my leg :D When I reached the Trauma bay at the hospital I was doped up so they could set the bone and put it into a cast - had the rod the next day.

The spine damage is likely to be a real fight, which is where I am hoping having someone as good as White Dalton will pay off; as the third party will certainly argue the spinal injury was from my fall, and not related to the crash.

But I have a feeling it was done during the crash and was either masked by being doped up for the whiplash, as I had symptoms after the initial week post bike crash, that were a lot like I felt in my back after the fall - just not as painful as they were developing (shortness of breath, unable to stand for more than 5 to 10 minutes, unable to lift my daughter).

As far as my claims are going - I'm still on 'first base' with White Dalton, who will be acting on recovering my losses and the personal injury. And with the I surer - it's all pretty much on hold for BMW to take a look see.

Still pretty worried that both our insurers are the same - they're bound to try and cheap out on settling everything I bet.

Tried to start the ******. Turns out I haven't been out on if for 4 months. Obviously it didn't start so the battery has been on charge overnight.

I have received my DBS check back though, and as a result I'm now eligible for Lincolnshire Blood Bikes. Will be volunteering as of January :)

Okay she started today having had the battery on charge for a few days. Pumped the tyres up, lubed her up and had a little ride out to a little café about half hour away for a Hot Chocolate. Filled up on the way back but annoyingly it seems as if the 'Select' button has stopped working so now while i can reset my Trip Counter, I can't check my odometer for my fuel app. The trip counter is inaccurate with the battery being disconnected for a few days, so I can't even use that.

Anyone any ideas?

Not sure what type of button it is on your bike, but can you get some contact cleaner in behind it? It’s not uncommon for condensation and/or contamination to work it’s way in to switchgear and leave behind residue. A blast of contact cleaner usually sorts it.

Its just a very small rubber button on the dashboard so to speak. I'll have a look of what I've got around; thank you. It can't be a huge issue as the other reset button works fine!

Added 30mm bar riders to my 765R as I was having issues with my wrists hurting after a while.
The risers made the bike MUCH more comfortable for me, managed a quick hours ride with them and had zero issues.
Top mod for £30. :)

Yea gave mine it's "winter clean" and covered it in scottoiler fs365 which is my preferred corrosion protector.

Brimmed the tank with premium, a bit of redex and now sat on a stand in the garage with the seat off and a charger on the terminals.

I don't have a fancy trickle charger thing, but my really old charger has a "low" setting so I'll just put that on every other week for half a day or so and occasionally start it.
