What Did You Get In Your GCSE's?

2 A*s, an A, 7 Bs and a C (damn Chemistry teacher!).

They both didn't really make any difference at all and made all the difference, if that makes any sense. Without decent grades I wouldn't have gone to sixth form and then university etc, but now I don't even bother listing them on my CV, just '11 GCSEs grades A* - C'.

Wow, that was TEN YEARS ago.

The question was have your results affected what you're doing now. I'm just saying that they definitely have...

Do you go to uni?

No I don't / didn't.

The last bit just came across as you must get good grades to get here and you must get good grades to get there and that gets you into Uni, like it was some fixed plan from above that you had to follow..

I spent my time mocking people and being a pain in the back side to teachers.

I acheived the average C in everything I took, apart from English where I got a D.

I deeply regret that.

Also did ICT and Business level 2 diplomas at the same time which I passed.

A* x 8 (Maths, biology, chemistry, physics, german, french, geography, history)
A x 2 (English lang + lit)
B x 1 (polish)

Good GCSEs lead to A-Levels which lead to medical school which lead to my current doctoring lark.

I got 10 As at GCSE (no A* in my day).

However, I don't think that exam grades are that important to success in later life, other factors, e.g. self motivation, are more important.

I did eleven O Grades and got eight 1's and three 2's, I think. The level of importance you place on them is directly linked to how old you are and at what stage in your career you are. Did they affect me? No, not in any real sense.

And to whoever siad they look good on a CV. Yeah, don't do this. It's extremely rare that employers would give even the slightest interest in these basic exams.

One of the FY2s I work with had fairly average GCSEs (mostly Bs I think) but did well at A-Level in the end.

Plus a couple of my friends got into med school with ABC at A-Level, but this was back in the day (god I feel old) when there were ABB offers etc.

1 A - Integrated Humanities (History + Geography)
3 B's - Double Science and Maths
1 C - CDT
3 D's - English Lit/Lang and German
1 E - French
1 F - Art

I did real exams
8 O Levels

So did I.

Maths...A
Pure Maths..A
Physics...A
English Language...A
English Literature...A
History...A
Chemistry...B
Biology...A
Geography...B
Statistics...C

I took Statistics, English Language and Biology a year early. (maybe a mistake with stats and biology)

That's not really what I meant, but I see now why it could have been read like that. I was just making the point that it is worth caring about GCSEs, even if they're immediately superceded by A levels and then a degree, if you do one.:)

I got..
4 x A (Maths, Statistics, Double Science)
3 x B (Eng Lang, Graphics, Geography)
3 x C (Eng Lit, Economics, German)
1 x E (RE)

Considering I messed around and did no revision or work for them it wasn't a bad result! I failed all my mocks as I couldn't see the point in them and had my parents called in by the headmaster to have a meeting with me and him to discuss the mocks..

Wonder how well I would have done if I'd put some effort in..

Which medschool did/do you go to?

Leicester

Yeah its all AAA now isn't it, tbh Bs at GCSE isn't bad, and I think there is a GCSE requirement throught UCAS for medical school applications you have to have minimums in certain subjects from what I remember.

I have 14 GCSE's. This is definitely too many btw, particularly if you are also doing additional maths qualifications and some As levels early - it was too much work and my grades suffered slightly as a result - i was predicted that all my A's would be A*.

IIRC it was
5A* (maths, double science, geography and D&T:systems and control),
6A (double ICT, statistics, Art, English lang. and lit.)
3B (French, Spanish, religious education)

They do set you up well to do the A-levels you want and then the degree course at the university you want (if you want to take that path).
