I feel your pain OP.

My list of "stuff I want" invariably falls into one of 2 categories:

A. "Stuff I'm about to buy"
B. "Stuff that's too expensive"

There's no point in asking for stuff from category A because I've just bought it, there's no point in asking for stuff from category B because it's too expensive.
