What do people want to achieve from being rude?

I think it's a combination of people being selfish a-holes and learning that being rude helps them get their own way from their past experiences because it makes other people uncomfortable and want to get out of the situation by giving the rude person what they want.

As a society, we need to stop rewarding rude behaviour.

raises hand!.. a lot of the games I play on a purpose built arcade machine many here would not have been born when they were made. shoot the bull, shuuz, hat trick, world class bowls, super side kicks. and I only recently complete Zelda lttp (SNES) in lockdown along with one of the dizzy egg games and all of the mario and Kirby games up to the N64

The trouble is there is no consequence for acting like a helm, maybe its a lack of discipline, maybe I'm just getting older and shouting at the clouds.

the laser.disk games have aged really poorly imo (I kind of wish I had left them in my rose tinted specs past tbh). other light gun games have aged much better..... time crisis is still great and even operation wolf.

but this is about rude people. bottom line people are allowed to get away with it. if twits (feel free to swap vowel) were treated with zero tolerance and kicked out they would soon change. but whether it is small man (prolly should say person these days) syndrome or just squeeky wheel gets the oil either way if I had my way they would not be served.
and anyone who says don't like it get another job imo are part of the problem, they are either the people we are talking about (quite likely imo) or they are enabling them.

a shop is a private business I do not have a right to enter their premises. their house.... their rules.
 
Has it occurred to anyone here that some of these people take narcotics and the reason for them being rude/aggressive is the end result? IIRC an american said to me years ago that there were two things that made this country stand out from other countries she'd visited. Poor service and extreme violence.

You are right, too much obsession with the customer is always right, unfortunately some customers are absolute bells who need booting.

The current schooling mentality, where large percentages of pupils are accepted to have an "ism" but really are short of the physical discipline modern teaching rules forbid, has a lot to be blamed for on how their charges turn out.

That's not to say feckless parents (and especially the over applauded single female parent) have no bearing on the outcome of their progeny.
 
I could never work in a bar or any kind of retail.
I'd end up banning probably 30% of customers, and punching about 5%.

I'm always polite to retail staff... A bit of courtesy is free and you'll be treated better. The person behind the till has no control over how busy they are or if there's an issue with a product /pricing.

Sometimes you do get a poor service but there are better ways of going about it than being rude.
One example I went into a pub once and it was basically empty... Certainly no one waiting to be served other than me. The bar tender was chatting to an off duty bar tender.. I knew this as I was stood next to them at the bar waiting quietly listening to thier conversation for probably 2 mins before the on duty one asked me what I wanted poured my beer.

I waited until they poured my beer, quite an expensive craft beer.. Then I just turned on my heel and walked out without saying a word, leaving the beer on the bar ... Went to a bar a few doors down and got served pretty much straight away despite it being a little busier.

Hah.. No I didn't pay.. They put the beer on the bar for me and said that'll be £5.50 or whatever it was.. It was at that point I walked out, leaving the beer on the bar.

Probably a bit passive - aggressive but they were chatting for so long I'd had time to decide what I was going to do before hand.

for 99.9% of the time im very nice & will say have a great day Thanks & so on.
But lately i'm noticing a lot more incompetence in every field, people only
  • doing half a job & leave it for others
  • you ask a question, "sure ill go find out" only to be waiting 35mins for them to go oh i forgot, or i couldn't find out.... why didn't you tell me this 15 mins ago?
  • being rude themselves
  • being stupidly slow, (mainly at managers) but having 50 people line in a supermarket with only 1 on the tills when bunch of staff are having a chat to lanes down
    • pushing people to use self-service then having so much crap hardware i could make the loaf of bread myself before i can pay..
 
Safariland holsters are your friends when it comes to weapon retention.

Not having the situational awareness of a ******* rock is also good.

The old 5.11 holster where the release button needed your trigger finger to press quite hard and was located so that said finger dropped onto the trigger as the pistol began to move up and out of the holster, not so much.

You were on your own and made them serve something that you didn’t want and it ended up being premeditated. Not really sure that’s any better than just being blunt and saying they were too slow and walking off without wasting £5.50 of product. In fact your lonesome, revenge timidness was pretty weak versus being honest about in the first place.
