What do you guys think of number plates for cyclists

You've then just scuppered the cycling heritage of this country.

Cavendish, Wiggins, froome, Pendleton. All started as kids on the road.

/Devils advocate mode.

So what? They banned handguns and destroyed that sport in the UK for the sake of safety. If this saves a couple of lives a year then it is the same argument.

/Devils advocate mode off.

Obviously I don’t want either banned!

The difference is someone ain't gonna go postal with a bike and run over a school full of kids, killing them.
At most in a cycling accident one or two can be seriously injured or killed.

I’d rather have a 12 bore tbh.

The vast majority - certainly around an articulated truck - are a danger to themselves, usually without having any comprehension of being so.

Truck drivers are known for being perfect drivers though yeah? I mean, when they're not busy murdering prostitutes or whatever.

Whilst I wouldn't dig at them that far I will say whenever I see an HGV driver spouting off about being a professional driver it makes me cringe and then chuckle. Whilst there are many decent HGV drivers from my experience on the roads there are also many that shouldn't be behind the wheel of an HGV. Humans will be humans!

I think horses should not be on the road these days as there far to many cars on the road now and it dangerous
Dangerous because of morons with engines.*

*Sweeping statement. Most are fine but there are too many that pass too close and/or at speed. Even on the quieter country roads.

I don't want to die, so I will continue use the paths because the cycling lanes are inadequate and most often, dangerous. :(
Doesn't make a difference if they are pristine from what I've seen, near me roads were closed for weeks on end and a cycle lane was put in, was a massive job was went over round about and heading into Leeds, its probably been used 5 times, yet the road for it is perfect, no holes and cracks etc

In Cambridge the cycle paths were always empty because they would have to give way to the side roads on the main route. So the cyclists just cycled on the roads next to them.

The government's Code of Conduct for cyclists (which are recommendations, not laws) says that cyclists travelling faster than 18mph should use the road and not the cycle path.

Have always thought cyclists on the road should pay an insurance at a low rate eg £50/£100 per year to cover them for damage caused

That's really not cheap - you can already buy cycle insurance for ~£20 a year.

Motor insurance is expensive because of the ridiculous amounts of damage motorists cause - bicycles simply aren't in the same league.
