What do you guys think of number plates for cyclists

I see this often myself,I spend a lot of time on motorways as you can imagine I’m sure, and to be fair from behind you can’t tell who’s driving the vehicle in front, unfortunately though, you leave a large gap and a car or two will slot into it, especially in roadworks, I just set my cruise control to ~48mph (which is usually faster than a car speedometer be because I’m calibrated whereas they are not) and try to go with the flow....

Not to excuse the sit on the car in fronts bumper brigade (of which there’s plenty) but as I say frequently the trucker has left a safe gap but Joe car/van driver just views that as a space to jump into....
Fair comment, I entirely agree that quite a few car drivers see any gap that would allow a cigarette paper's thickness fore and aft as being made for them - this is particularly true on Motorway slip roads where people do tend to barge off the motorway at the very last minute in order to shave seconds off their journey time, ideally saving electricity as well by not using their indicators ;)

I'd prefer stingers to be deployed by the public when they use pavements that they shouldn't.

On my commute I jump on the pavement a couple of times for no more than 50 yards so I don't get maimed however I slow to a crawl.
If I hit someone I'd be mortified however in the past 6 years people have walked straight in front of me three times when I've been on the road resulting in me getting broken ribs, nasty cut to the knee and a broken finger.
Of course it's always my fault.

Not to the same scale as cycling. Certainly not in this country.

sounds like a golden opportunity then, get some community support going.

also bear in mind that while rally drivers can pre-drive the course when it's open they can't do it at full pelt (speed limits and all that), a problem that a professional road racing cyclist would not have.

You probably need to slow down then :p

Drivers get told the same thing.

Sounds like you're rather pointlessly wanting to deprive a lot of people of fun for no to limited gain.

The point Winston is making is that cyclists should be identifiable and take responsibility for their actions, in particular abide by the law.

Sounds fair enough to me.

They have all those requirements already. We just don't have sufficient police to bother with it because the outcomes are just so minimal.
