What do you think of supreme commander?

(Advice please!)
I've been hunting around for how much of a difference switching to dual core will actually make. I'm pretty poor at the moment but really love this game :( Can anyone find some cpu-based benchmarks? (The only ones google seems to give are based on changing the graphics cards around.)

I have an:
Athlon 64 3000+ (Winchester core), slightly clocked.
1GB ddr400
Asus A8V mobo (Socket 939, AGP)
256MB, 6800GT graphics.

At the moment it cant handle 3 cpus - if I play against more than two on skirmish it grinds to a halt! And it doesnt like the big maps either :( Can anyone tell me what difference (say) an X2 3800+ will make? Or is there a batter option you'd recommend?

I had a similar CPU, 3200+ to be exact. 256mb 6800GS gfx card PCI-E I got really bad slowdown and freezing once there was a thousand or so units on the entire map. I've since upgraded to the X2 3800+ and the game runs lovely now. I can play a game ona 20x20 map with 6-8 AI's on the higher graphical settings and still get a good frame rate while im in the heat of a huge battle I get a little slowdown but its still easily playable.

I can highly recommend the X2 3800+ for your system. Worth every penny.

Does anyone know how many levels per faction?

If this games gonna be like 10+ levels per faction, im on forget it mode lol

As in how many levels do you play for each?

Its 6 each, but they can last for hours

What i'd really like to see is some AI routines to ease the load on the player, I think some "toggle" functions for Commander/Engineers especially such as "Repair mode" where they automatically go about repairing nearby units and structures without you having to order them to. That way you could dedicate 2 or 3 engineers to making sure your base was healthy without having to constantly divert your attention away from more important things.

I've been realy impressed with the game. i'm a bit sad and just like to play against easy AI and build up my army, i recently had 10 upgraded support acu's all helping my commander to build, and enough power and metal supplys so they could build an experimental monkey bot in about 30 seconds.

As for performance i have a c2d E6700 @ 3.2, 4gb ram and an 8800gtx so haven't had any problems with all settings maxxed but only played up to 3 enemy's on a 40km map. I still think it's struggle with 7 on an 80+km map.

I've not looked at the online stuff but would quite like to play with a certain person, is it possible to do that in a one on one?

Thx yeah thats why I asked cos I was one the 1st level and sorta taking long ;)

thats good 6 per side, although im hooked on skirmish atm.... just too fun must be crazy online

Haven't had a dam chance to play a massive game on this yet, played a 1 hour game last night, really want to play a big 20x20 map with 4 Ai and let rip but just finding 3 hours to do it is hard. I have specifically upgraded for this and C&C3 running C2D 6400 @ 3.2 and 2gig of ram and i runs a dream on a 18000XT, never had thousands of units yet so not sre how it will cope with that.

should be fine, mines ok but needs more ram and I've the same as you but 1gig ram and a 1900XT

Been playing this for a short while now. Just playing the campaign and trying to get to grips with the controls and units atm. I used to play TA quite a bit so the whole dual-resource system is familiar to me but I'm really have trouble getting used to this right-click action system, it seems totally alien to anything else I've tried and is driving me nuts.

Few things which I just don't get:

1. How the hell does the ferry system work? Say I want some transports to lift a load of tanks somewhere and just get on with it while I do other stuff, how do I do this exactly?
2. How do you add new units to an existing selection? Shift and select doesn't seem to work.
3. What's the best way to get air support units to "guard" or "patrol" a group of ground based units so I can move the ground units around and have the air support stay with them and help out?
4. Ctrl-n to add units to a group is fine but how do you select them again? Alt-n and Shift-n don't seem to work.

Sorry if these are n00b questions that have been asked before but I can't seem to work them out. Not played TA for quite a while either :)
