What do you want from the Next Gen.

On your keyboard and mouse proposal......

When I stopped playing competitive FPS PC gaming a couple of years back I would have backed you up on this totally. I am currently playing BF3 on PS3 and im quite good, I have a fair K/D ratio but I know for a fact I would be tones batter if I was playing with a keyboard and mouse....as would so many PC gamers.

My opinion has changed though, if you imagine a server running PC gamers v consoles gamers it would be so unfair its untrue! I can cast my mind back to Dreamcast and playing Quake 3 arena, I was watching people pulling off crazy reaction shots which I could not get close to mimicking on the control pad. Turns out the game was compatible with mouse and keyboard, so I got one and improved dramatically! Point is, not everyone who plays console has ever played FPS games on a PC and has no experience gaming with mouse and keyboard and despite how good they are with a control pad someone with half their game-sense would "own" them. It has to be a level playing field in my opinion, PS3 v PS3, XBOX v XBOX and PC v PC (you might get away with xbox v ps3)

Improvement I would like to see on next gen are:

1080p (full HD) on all games
Lesser drop in frame rate (would come with much improved hardware)
*NOT 3D*
very little or no change to the control pads (xbox and ps3)
Ultra silent cooling
fully backwards compatible
I would like to see PS have a avatar creator like on Microsoft
Far better online support (the 64man servers seen on BF3 PC compared to the 24man on consoles.....not cool)

more reliable hardware. i have owned so many brands of consoles in the past without ever having any issues. I can't say the same with my Xbox 360 and PS3 (launch models)

Yeah I agree, not good so many people have been forced to buy replacements over and over! I cant believe im still using the PS3 I got on release date without any issues.....touch wood!

Hardware to run at 1080p smooth. Also to the guy saying they will do pretty graphics instead of higher res, well higher res equals pretty graphics although as said you would require decent hardware to keep things smooth.

PC gamers can run 1080p because games are designed for lesser hardware(even when it's a PC only game). Some games will run in 1080p next gen, but only if the dev's believe that the game will look better at 1080p with a bit less eye candy than at 720p with less effect. This will really be game dependent.

Personally I would like to someone make a controller that is better suited RTS games. Online is finally able to deliver on the promise over the last 10 years but console controllers just aren't suited to many of the best online experiences.

Arguably the most important thing is the controller. I always remember Peter Moore when he was at MS babbling on about how there's too many buttons. But I really like the Xbox 360 controller and wouldn't change a single thing about it, apart from having separate D-pad buttons like the DualShock.

Besides, if they go and change it for the next Xbox, it'll bugger up all the PC games that have standardised on a 360 controller. Let's hope it stays the same. *fingers crossed*

PC is already way beyond the next gen console.

MS do not have a clue now with their company policy of targeting the wii casual gamer audience. Its going to give them short term profits but core gamers are already moving onto the PC. Look at the last 360 dashboard update which targeted streaming video amongst other things & its now got a broken colourspace for video which MS knew about in advance but pushed the update out anyway

If MS had a clue they would heavily invest in the PC & make it more user friendly. Spending money on a new console is a waste as PC's are modular.

As long as Windows is still the top PC operation system then MS wont care about gaming on the PC. Why would they when they have Nvidia and AMD doing it for them, keeping the Windows gaming platform going.

ROFLCOPTER!

Better graphics is all I can really ask for. Xbox live does everything I want and more, and as much as im happy with the current performance levels etc, compared to a PC a lot of the newer stuff is starting to look dated upon release.

That's not entirely true though. If MS weren't bothered, they wouldn't bother updating DirectX on PC nor making a Kinect for Windows SDK.

1080p, 60fps and AA should be standard.

What i would really like to see though is the idea of porting a game a thing of the past, considering it should run windows 8 and be on current pc hardware microsoft need to make sure it's easily compatible with windows 7 and 8 on the pc.

Which took months after the kinect was released on the 360 and people had their own methods of getting it to work on the PC.
