What do you want from the Next Gen.

Yes while we're talking about controllers the next Xbox pad needs to have much better triggers. The original one had direct triggers. Then they made them indirect on the 360 with a hideous amount of play in the mechanism.

Some games used them differently too. In MW2 (possibly all COD) the triggers have quite a bit of dead travel, but BC2 on the other hand allows much less and I found myself shooting unintentionally. If the play didn't exist I'm sure that would not be the case.

I would like dual mode triggers a highly sensitive digital type setting for shooters and an analogue mode for the rest.

For developers to release games with most of the bugs ironed out. No more of this rush it to release then spend 6 months dragging out patches. Patching on consoles has made developers lazy. The whole bonus of consoles was the majority of titles worked. Don't need a new controller for the xbox. I'll be furious if they change it as it's perfect. Xbox live is moving along nicely.

Better graphics and smother gameplay is all i would really ask for.

I want a bit more honesty. This gen was touted as being the HD generation and all that nonsense, and yet most games aren't even 720p let alone 1080p (the latter is forgiveable, the former isn't). Online play is still a disappointment due to the lack of dedicated servers for many games, and the state in which many games are being released these days is horrendous really.

You've got things like Skyrim which evidently grinds to a halt for many PS3 users, BF3 which is painful to play due to input lag and horrendous voice comms (again on PS3), and the list goes on. If it was any other product that was being released in a poor quality, unreliable state, there'd be a massive backlash against the manufacturer and the retailers would be having to do a recall. And yet, when it comes to games, because the faults aren't 'physical', nobody cares.

used to think mouse and keyboard was the bees knees, but now its my Xbox 360 pad all the way, KB&M just feels so arcane now and sluggish as hell.

but on another note, the PC has always been ahead of consoles in terms of raw performance, always will be as well because consoles are built and sold for a price that appeals to the market, would be pointless chucking a super fast 7*** series graphics processor into an Xbox if it would bring the retail price up-to £500 or something, it will always be a constant balancing act between performance and cost.

to be honest, next generation consoles I would like better graphics, nothing hugely better because that is expecting too much and perhaps some anti-aliasing wouldn't go amiss, better sound effects would have to be a big point since sound is one of those things that immerse you in the game, make it visceral and gritty. but biggest thing of all is either A) quit it with the whole download content crap or B) offer something good in download content, with Gears of War II for example the campaign addition was pretty pointless and weak at best, now if it was an entire act or more that took place from another perspective, that could be cool. just wish developers would stop trying to milk us of cash by releasing silly map packs and what not and take more time and thought in making download content that is appealing. :)

Having enough power to be able to run games at a consistent FPS, something above 30 FPS would be nice.

Higher resolutions and having games like Battlefield with a higher player count! Allowing for mod-support.

I'd be happy enough with a console that runs Battlefield at say a Medium graphical level, but allows for 64 player support, so you can actually feel like you're on a Battlefield.

At the end of the day, yeah games like Battlefield are nice to look at, but when you playing I'm having a laugh with my mates, organising which CP were going for, where to defend from etc not running around admiring the graphics (although this is a bonus on the PC)

I just think too much emphasis has been put on OMG GRAPHICS this gen, and think people are forgetting that the experience also makes up the quality of the game as well.

Till this happens, I'm slowly saving up to be able to buy a gaming computer again.

On your keyboard and mouse proposal......

When I stopped playing competitive FPS PC gaming a couple of years back I would have backed you up on this totally. I am currently playing BF3 on PS3 and im quite good, I have a fair K/D ratio but I know for a fact I would be tones batter if I was playing with a keyboard and mouse....as would so many PC gamers.

My opinion has changed though, if you imagine a server running PC gamers v consoles gamers it would be so unfair its untrue! I can cast my mind back to Dreamcast and playing Quake 3 arena, I was watching people pulling off crazy reaction shots which I could not get close to mimicking on the control pad. Turns out the game was compatible with mouse and keyboard, so I got one and improved dramatically! Point is, not everyone who plays console has ever played FPS games on a PC and has no experience gaming with mouse and keyboard and despite how good they are with a control pad someone with half their game-sense would "own" them. It has to be a level playing field in my opinion, PS3 v PS3, XBOX v XBOX and PC v PC (you might get away with xbox v ps3)

Improvement I would like to see on next gen are:

1080p (full HD) on all games
Lesser drop in frame rate (would come with much improved hardware)
*NOT 3D*
very little or no change to the control pads (xbox and ps3)
Ultra silent cooling
fully backwards compatible
I would like to see PS have a avatar creator like on Microsoft
Far better online support (the 64man servers seen on BF3 PC compared to the 24man on consoles.....not cool)

So its unfair for everyone to use K&M because some people have never played an FPS with K&M? Just like not everyone has used a controller and whilst having to get used to it would be at a disadvantage against controller veterans, surely your logic should work both ways, unless your female :-)

anyway, i don't want to play against other controller users as I know it would be unfair for those whom do not want to use K&M. But I would like the option to play with though whom do want to use K&M like some titles on the PS3 already let you.

I'm not quite sure why there is so much crying about it either. In most game that have multiple input options you can choose to not play with people who play with that option. So if you are a KB&M player on a console you could choose to only ever play against other KB&M players. A pad player could choose to only play against other pads.

I'm sure something similar exists in any PS Move game that also work with a controller and it's already been announced for the UMvC3 which allows you to use touch controls from the PlayStation Vita. If you don't want to play against those people you tick the box and you never even know they are there.

1. Have voice and hands free free control built into the console from the start.

2. Better integration of multiple functions. I think the days are gone where a console was just for playing games.

That's all i can really think of for the hardware point of view apart from the usual wish for improved performance.

In terms of games i'd love to see some more variety in what comes out rather than the usual plethora of AAA titles in the same old genres that are so full of fatigue it's not even funny anymore.

Community mods should be supported, though that means less money for the devs so that would never happen.

The community is why i'm still playing counter strike nine years on.

More reliability and less jaggies.

I liked the idea that MS had of making 720p mandatory and they also had some sort of extra chip/memory that was able to give 4x AA or something, without a "hit" to the rest of the graphics/sounds/AI stuff. In practice the AA was only implemented in some games and the 720p thing was not stuck to, but the idea was sound imo. Ps4 just needs better dev tools etc so we don't see shoddy ports or tearing that has plagued quite a lot of multiplat games.

I'm easily pleased really, I'd go for dedicated servers and no motion controls.

Oh and I agree with Vonhelmet too. (And if this gets put into place, I think all games should have achievements like Avatar)
