What film did you watch last night?

Watched Gravity last night. Looked amazing, and it was a really good film. Could have been a bit short at only 90 minutes but was the perfect length really.
8.5/10.

Wrath of Khan was alright. Other people will argue they were great movies. Sure they were shot some time ago, but that doesn't mean the acting still has to be so cardboard cut out. The effects and the editing too result in some lol worthy action sequences, particularly kirk's final battle.

Wrath of Khan is awesome. Especially if you watch it with whiskey and a cigar :D

Iron Man 3
Finally got to see this.
Very disappointing.
4/10.

I loved IM1 and 2, but 3 was all about Tony Stark, not Iron Man.
Every time he got in his suit he got his butt kicked, with ease.
There were times when I felt that if I got in a fight with Iron Man, I could've taken him.
Even War Machine couldnt kick butt.
My feeling is that they made the suits too beatable.

For some inexplicable reason after Ms Potts had the process done to her she became super aggressive and knew how to handle herself in a fight situation.

The one exciting thing was the Hulk Buster armour and it was never even used for attack. Merely to hold a ship steady. This armour was designed to beat/fight The Hulk. And what does it get used for? To hold a ship/harbour from collapsing. WTF!

And then there is Ben Kingsley. Wow.
Is this what he has come to?
I saw many comments stating that Kingsley was good.
Well, he had about 8 minutes of screen time in total and he was playing a comic actor. He wasnt even a bad guy!
If people thought Kingsley was good in this, perhaps they need to watch Gandhi.

Star Trek - Into Darkness
Very good.
No complaints.
If you like Star Trek 1, you should like this one.
More of the same.
8.5/10.

The producers of this movie, shouldve given the producers of Iron Man 3 a few tips.

I don't know i'm half and half with this film one half says its ok plent of action etc but the star trek half tells me wtf are they doing ....

1. In the first one they've rewrote star trek history by destroying volcan.
2. In this they've invented a transporter system that removes the need for starships by Khan jumping from earth to the klingon home world.
3. They've invented a cure for death.

Much of what you say is true, but serious doesn't mean good. Kingsley started off shown in a certain way and when they found him, he played a very believably different character. He played it well and the character was funny. Saying someone was good in a role doesn't mean he was serious and put in an oscar worthy role, he was though good in that role.

The rest of the film is almost pure garbage without much decent story or action. It was mostly stupid story, stupid action and not really fun.

Ultimately he kept using this one damn armour that wasn't ready at the start of the film, was never ready at any stage of the film, then at they end, he calls on 67(I don't know if I remember that number of made it up) suits to help him. Meaning at ANY stage in the film he could have used 67 fully working suits of which probably lets say 60 were fully viable fighting suits. So lets think of the situations.

1/ being attacked at his home, where he invited the "terrorist" to attack him, had his finance/wife/girlfriend in open sight, wasn't paying any attention to the outside world, has no basic radar(despite the rest of the tech), nor any defensive guns..... could have had 67 suits patrolling, could have the second under attack, activated all 67 to blow up the choppers almost instantly with no way they could defend an attack from 67 suits.

2/Decided to "put" the suit on pippa, and then took it off her, because they were standing 20ft away from a house being blown up by missiles, she was completely safe obviously, he chose to leave her defenseless, by taking a non fully functional suit off her, when he had 67 other suits that actually had power and worked.

3/ went to find Kingsley, because his suit was broken, without a suit on..... had 67 spare he could have called any time......

Technological advancement?

Yes and no, but it makes a complete mockery of the entire premise of the story.

Guy wants to make a super ship that can blow anything up because of the inevitable war with the Klingons and whoever else... invents technology that if it fell into the wrong hands, would enable an entire Klingon army to transport directly to earth making the entire idea of a super doopah space ship pointless.

Also, with access to crazy teleportation technology, why not simply transport all his people somewhere, then, from there, do it again, to some planet no one would ever track them? Basically it made more sense to have him teleport to another ship in orbit and escape, but the idiot in charge wanted a fight on the Klingon homeworld, with a few Klingons, so wrote in a way to short cut any normal way of getting there despite the massive plot holes it introduced.

Worth pointing out the the premise of an all powerful Klingon empire which could attack the federation, didn't have a ship anywhere near it's homeworld.......

One of the best IP's that for 40 years has lacked the technology to do it justice... finally gets that tech, a ridiculous budget, a mostly very good cast, and they put in the hands of a retard who thinks lenseflare is a good substitution for actual content. Both films could have been so much better it's laughable.

How much do you want to bet the next film has a stupid premise, a daft reason for revenge, a ship 42 times the size of the enterprise which disables it in 5 seconds of battle taking precisely no damage at all. Only to hold off the obvious killing shot, after some begging by Kirk, for some completely different reason, only for some dumb ass boarding party to take the ship from the inside, get back to the Enterprise which is magically moving again and has now come up with some means to defeat the unbeatable ship......

Its not just about Kingsley playing a comic role.
Its about screen time - the guy had less than 10 minutes screen time in total.
Him being there was actually unnecessary. Even Guy Pearce could've sat on the chair making demands/threats. I think Guy Pearce would've been more threatening.

Ben Kingsley was added for pure comic affect. I can't think of any other reason.

If they really wanted Kingsley on board, they could've given him a "genuine" role, where he really is the baddie, while Guy Pearce is his 2nd in command.

In terms of performances, Kingsley's performance wouldnt even rank in my top 100 this year. Not because he was bad, but simply because he had no screen time. Basically he was an extra. And extras don't get acclaim.

Kick Ass 2
8.5/10

Great movie.
I enjoyed it.
No complaints.
Not as violent as Kick Ass 1, but that wasn't a problem.

Word of warning - some people prefer movies/shows which are slow moving and spend time building up. This movie shifts at a brisk pace and looks like it was heavily edited to keep run time to a minimum, so this might not be for everybody.

Loved Mother Russia - now SHE was villain to be feared...unlike those jokers in Iron Man 3.
