What film did you watch last night?

The Wolfman

I was very surprised by this film, I enjoyed it a lot more than I anticipated I would. Sure, I have my criticisms but they are more opinions than direct criticisms. In terms of production values the film looked very professional and Hollywood esque. The sets were fantastic, the costumes complimented the period perfectly, the color correction in post production was done excellently and the CGI was impressive to say the least. (Aside from the one shot where he is sitting under the bridge and you can clearly tell the scenery is CGI)

In terms of screenplay I found the dialogue 'believable'. That's to say it wasn't pretentious but neither witty. Most American screenwriters play the role of God and give the audience the impression that all bourgeois characters would be the best of public speakers. Thankfully, this wasn't apparent in The Wolfman, it's meant to be a dark, gritty film and the script reflected that, no epic speeches etc.

In terms of critiquing The Wolfman SPOILERS WARNING I thought Anthony Hopkins was directed poorly, it was evident from the off that there was something suspicious about him, and one could have guessed the outcome quite easily.

To conclude I found The Wolfman to be very enjoyable, I wasn't expecting much more than an action flick but why would I expect more with a title such as The Wolfman. It exceeded my expectations and I recommend you all to go watch it.

7/10

Revolutionary Road

For those of you who haven't heard of Revolutionary Road, it's about a couple who decided to pack up their lives and go live in Paris in search of the life they have always wished for. However, there are complications along the way.

SPOILERS

The acting in Revolutionary Road by Di-Caprio (In particular) and Kate Winslett is some of the best acting you're ever likely to see. The screenplay is incredible and the storyline kept me captivated. There are constant themes of family life running throughout, I was very much reminded of American Beauty. (which is a very good thing!)

9/10

EDIT- Just realised it's also directed by Sam Mendes :p

Legion

A very entertaining watch indeed, a great storyline and a couple of moments that freaked me out a little bit.

Paul Bettany was brilliantly cast, as was Dennis Quaid and although there were couple of weak casting choices it didnt spoil the film in any way.

Grandma was excellent.

8/10 (would have been 9/10 but something annoyed me about a particular part and i dont want to spoil it for anyone)

Band of Brothers

I know, not technically a film, but quite possibly the best thing ever filmed imo!
I think it's the 7th time i've gone through it now, and still entertains me.

10/10 as always

I do like good German WW2 films and Downfall, along with Das Boot, is one of them. Bruno Ganz is just .

And as for Alexandra Maria Lara, phwoar! :D

Did you watch on TV, DVD or Blu-ray? Got the DVD and wondering whether the Blu-ray is worth the upgrade. :)

Was the DVD I watched. Even managed to get peace to watch it as my other half hates subtitled films. :D
I only watched Das Boot a few years back on TV. It was another great film. It's interesting to see WW2 films told from a non western view point.

Flying back from holidays watched these on the ipod:

Son of Rambow- great little film 8.5/10

Rocky Balboa- I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting to 7/10

Hehe. :) I'm deaf so I like subtitles anyway plus I did A-Level German so I like to have the subtitles on so I can match what they say to the English translation.

Yeah I do agree. There've been too many WW2 films from the Allies point of view, most of them very good, but there are two sides to every story and I think Band of Brothers gets close to telling stuff from a German point of view with the later episodes around the concentration camp. Otherwise all the other western films on WW2 are very much from our perspective. Hence why I love Das Boot and Downfall.
