What film did you watch last night?

Death Wish (2018) - 3/10

A bland revenge thriller with nothing remarkable about it – passable acting, passable plot, functional characters and ok action scenes.

The comical moments are out of tone with the rest of the film, the weak acting from Willis is disappointing, and although the political debate is still relevant, it’s an old one.

A Quiet Place.

Tension at maximum. Almost feels like I was watching Alien. I wanted to bail at the cinema at one point so I could take a breather from the tension.

Great horror movie.

Hurricane Hiest 4/10

As average & instantly forgettable as a film can get.
Wasn't expecting much & I was not disappointed.

Some of the special effects/stunts were just plain silly & laughable. If you go into watching it switching your brain off then I guess it's ok but I want more for a film I'm afraid.

Ghost Stories,

Has a few moments of terror but it relies on way too many jump scares including the title card, the ending wasn't what I had thought would happen but it's still a not too shady horror film if you enjoy them.

5/10

Thoroughbreds (2018) - 7/10

Entertainingly different and artistic in its style and setting with good performances and some odd and quirky moments.

However, I never really engaged with the characters or the plot so found it distant most of the time.

Black Sabbath - the end of the end 9/10

If your a Sabbath fan this is a must watch as they finish the final tour in Birmingham in 2017.
In 4k it's amazing cinematography, sound is fabulous & the interviews in-between gives a great insight to the band.

Baby Driver 9/10.

Great movie, hadn't read any reviews or seen any trailers so I had no idea what to expect. It gripped me from start to finish. Brilliant driving, great music. Definitely worth a watch.

Wonder 8/10.

A feel good movie about a child with a facial deformity starting school for the first time. It's a very emotional movie. It was interesting the way they shot the movie, with perspectives from the family and friends. Should add that it had me crying like a baby. I would recommend anyone to watch this movie.

The Conjuring 2: 7/10. Plenty of creepy imagery and effective jump scares, impressive credits showing photos of the haunting it’s based on, well made and enjoyable horror that becomes much more bearable (I.e. less scary) as it enters its final third.

Despicable Me 3: 2/10. This was just awful, we couldn’t even finish the film. It felt like they just wrote it in 5 minutes and thought - yup, that’ll do. Zero emotion, terrible characters, an insanely annoying female lead, a dreadful villain. Yes the minions are universally amusing but they can’t carry this turd I’m afraid.

The Death of Stalin 7/10
It was entertaining and I learnt some things (at least I think I did) in what amounts to a caricature of what happened after Stalin passed away. It's consistently humourous but I could never quite get over the range of accents on offer. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

The Shape of Water 7/10
Was ok. Probably my least favourite Del Toro film though because It didn't give enough to me in terms of story, but was still watchable due to the performances. If you like the magical realism brand of film making that Del Toro offers up then I'd worth a go. (yes I know that this isn't strictly magical realism...)

You Were Never Really Here

Just fantastic. Phoenix has long been one of the best in the business and his performance here does nothing to tarnish his record. Lynne Ramsay continues to be one of the most underrated directors in modern film history. Her work here is nothing short of stunning. It's the type of gutsy filmmaking that you rarely ever see these days. Fantastic stuff!

Killing of a Sacred Deer

Damn... Having not seen any of Yorgos Lanthimos's flciks before now, I wasn't quite ready for this. Completely bizzare in almost every respect. Jet black comedy with hugely sinister undertones. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There's some cool allegories in there to take away once it's finished, but overall I couldn't really say I was a fan, more just glad that I'd watched it.

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle

Not bad at all, I actually enjoyed this more than the original. Obviously a certain redhead helped, phwoar.

6/10

Really looking forward to seeing you were never really here. Looks right up my alley.

Really enjoyed killing of a sacred deer. Very good film.

Have you seen the lobster? Another quirky lanthimos film worth a watch.

It's fantastic, not at all what I expected it too be. Probably because I didn't know it was a Lynne Ramsey flick xD

I haven't yet no. It's on the list for sure though!
