What film did you watch last night?

Saw Game Night, really rated it. I haven't laughed that much or that hard for a long time. Those two have great chemistry, and their delivery of so much deadpan comedy is superb.

What we do in the Shadows

Absolutely adored this film. I already knew I loved the dry, deadpan humour of a few of the people associated with it, having been a big fan of Flight of the Conchords. Jermain Clement, Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby all have superb comic timing and invest their characters with the kind of hilarious mundanity they've mastered so well. Stu the non-actor playing himself was also a great asset to the film. Stu, Stu, Stu, Stu....

The mockumentary/spoof reality style is getting a bit jaded I think in general, but here it worked brilliantly and suited the way they'd approached the subject matter. I liked it so much I re-watched it again straight away yesterday morning after first viewing on Saturday night.

I've heard there's a spin-off/follow-up in the works called We're Wolves, focusing on Rhys Darby's werewolf. I generally think the world needs more Rhys Darby anyway, so already looking forward to this!

9.5/10

Insidious: The Last Key

I mean, I know the first 3 were pretty naff, but this is downright terrible.

3/10 (just for Tucker and Specs)

Annihilation

Noticed this was quite polarising (and I am of the Interstellar = crap, Arrival = good mindset) so gave it a go.

Both the missus and I enjoyed it, some nice visuals and ideas, interesting enough, but a slightly flat pay-off at the end.

6.5/10

Tully 2018.

Free pre screening. Was actually ment to see some other film but they sent the wrong one to the cinema.... Thank god.

Pretty good story of a mum dealing with a new baby and already demanding family. All gets interesting when she gets help from a night nanny recommended by her successful brother.
Only 96mins but enjoyable and fun/weird :p

Black panther - 6/10

Found it all a bit meh... both bad guys were far from convincing.

Avengers: infinity War - 7/10

Somewhat of a let down but think that was based on my own expectations I had built up after the media hype. Just hope part 2 redeems it.

Not last night but recently, the new jumanji, first rock film I haven't enjoyed, jokes were predictable and I just found it over all abit meh, villian was ****. Considering all the hype I was vastly disappointed

4/10

Infinity chamber 7/10

Wasn't expecting much from this, but it surprised me. Sci-fi mystery film about a guy stuck in a prison with only an AI looking after him.

Really good film and better than the IMDb rating.

Ahh, someone else who likes this film :) I thought it was great too. One of the best films of its type.

Hidden Figures
What a brilliant film, caught it by chance on Sky Movies. Not seen it advertised anywhere which is a shame as it was pure quality.
Enjoyed it through out and would highly recommend it. One of the best films I've watched this year.

Dunkirk. Been waiting patiently and secretly excited for this one to become available for free viewing as i missed it at the theater. However utterly disappointed. Biggest wet firework i've seen in a long long time. Don't quite understand the high rotten tomato rating????? nolan has some weight in Hollywood i guess. Everything about the movie was umm ok, so when is this going to get going, except it never did. Didn't capture the scale of the evac. Acting was beyond naff. Story line.. Not sure if serious? Bit in the boat when its getting shot up. yeah throw the frenchie out cos that'll make it float????. Main characters acting like a coward? why? why did he have to kill that kid? What was the point in that? Dad seemingly fine about it??? Seemed like one small boat was the entire rescue??? Lets not forget the ONE single spitfire with endless rounds of ammo, and endless amounts of fuel / gliding ability saving the day. Movie was a joke. If you want a poorly executed war movie, you're better off renting Pearl Harbor out, fast forwarding the first hour of the actual attack. Then sit back and roll your eyes for the remainder !

I thought it decent enough but rather clean and clinical. Much like most of Nolan's work.

I thought it was excellent.

The main characters were acting like humans, scared with no idea what was really going on. Imagine being pushed to a sea by people wanting to kill you. How would you act.

From my memory it didn't seem like the spitfire had unlimited ammunition.

Of course it's not your usual pearl Harbour type movie. It's different, it focuses on the personalised issues of war and that to me it done very very well.

It wasn' his dad, and I'm sure he had a lot of issues on his mind at the time. Like his own kid and the potential hundreds of people around him dying. The kid dying was also an accident by a man clearly suffering with some serious mental issues.

Deadpool 2
11/10... seriously

It knocked it out of the park. The first 20 mins was a bit formulaic but then it got into its stride. I haven't laughed so loud and hard at a cinema in years. Part of the atmosphere was everyone else laughing too so definitely one to watch at the cinema.

I thought Infinity Wars was going to be a tough film to beat when I watched it last week. But this smashed it. I want to watch it again right now!

The Greatest Showman. Loved it.

Hugh Jackman was brilliant, all the cast were actually. If thats his real voice, man he can sing. A really fun upbeat musical.

I watched this and I hate musicals, some of the time when they broke out into song I cringed, but that said, I thought it was great. The story was interesting and the songs felt quite current and not oldie.
I actually liked it. Get a 7/10. I bet if I liked musicals it would get a 10

My best film of 2017 that. Was good.

Just watched Black Panther (now I can finally see the Avengers) - I enjoyed it for what it was. Another character building Marvel movie. It wasn't brilliant, but it was fun to watch. Some of the typical quick comedy found in these movies worked well. Could see the story coming a mile off, but yeah, it was fun :)

The only bit I was a bit "...really" about was the armoured rhinos...out of everything :p
