What film did you watch last night?

Not really a film but last night I finally got to watch Book of Mormon. Absolutely loved it and if the tickets weren't so expensive I'd go again in a heart beat. Matt Stone and Trey Parker shaped a lot of my humour due to me watching South Park at a much younger age than I should've but their humour transitioned to the stage really well.

Bad Boys For Life - 7/10

Not a patch on the first two, no real great moments but a generally solid movie that holds up the end of the franchise just fine.

Rambo Last Blood - 1/10.

An absolute turd of a movie and NOT a fitting end to the franchise The 1 point is for the montage at the end reminding us of how good Rambo once was

Hellboy on Netflix last night, the one that was out last year in the cinemas.

Quite enjoyed it although reviews weren’t great but meh switch brain off and just watch for mindless action lol.

I’d give it a 5/10.

Parasite (Gisaengchung) (2019) - 8/10

A great film that really has a bit of everything in it.

It starts off funny as they infiltrate the household before turning into a thoughtful look at the gap between the richest and poorest in society, and ultimately ends up
as a bit of a bloodbath
and rather sad.

The social commentary is topical, the plot has some good surprises along the way, and the arty style and use of music makes it a very interesting film to watch.

The Personal History of David Copperfield (2020) - 6/10

A mostly straightforward telling of Dicken’s story but with a multicultural cast.

Although the story of rags to riches to rags to riches is quite remarkable, this presentation wasn’t really anything special, although the reproduction of Dickensian London was well done.

Good acting and emphasizing the eccentricities of each of the characters brought some humour to the film, but it didn’t really stand out.

Terminator: Dark Fate - Garbage/10 for a "Terminator" film or 3/10 for a generic film - I'm a terminator fan, I have been since I scrimped and saved over all summer for the £4.50 needed to by the T2 novel as a teen, and despite that actually I'm a bigger fan of T1 than T2, so it was shame to see that franchise literally killed within the first 2 minutes (amazing face change/de-aging CGI however). I now get that this is not a real "Terminator" film but just an attempted franchise reboot for a new "Terminator 2.0" series, swapping everything people already know and love for something new and not seen before, so knowing that this film had so much riding on it I can't fathom the general lack of care this film is made with.

You cant be that big a fan if you've only seen it after the cinema release and when it went on several torrent sites...

I live in Saudi Arabia and the nearest cinema is 1300km away from where I live (same distance as Lands End to John 'o' Groats) but apparently there's a closer one only 1000km away said to be opening soon, sooooo yeah I only get to a cinema once or twice a year when I come back to Stoke. Plus the film looked terrible from the trailers, meaning that unlike Avengers End Game, where I actually took a 3hr flight just to see it, I wouldn't spend that sort of money for this.

Monty Python's Meaning of Life - watched for the late, great Terry Jones, especially the Mr Creosote sketch. I loved it and quoted along with it most of the way through. It does lumber along a bit in the middle but picks up again at the end. RIP Mr Jones. 4/5

6 Underground
Switch your brain off and enjoy the stunning visuals and photography. First film I’ve watched at home in 4k Dolby Vision OLED | 7/10

The final boat scene was awesome with a perfect backing track (Bishop Briggs - White Flag)

The Shining. 2/10

Finally got round to watching this and wish i never bothered.

Can't see why this was classed as a masterpiece. Long and drawn out with not a lot happening.

Maybe it would have been better seeing it in 1980.
