What film did you watch last night?

The Gentlemen
9/10

Fantastic watch. I liked the homage to the Long Good Friday in one particular scene.

With Michael in the back of the car near the end being driven away in the back of his car by the Russian mafia, this is an echo from The Long Good Friday where Bob Hoskins character is driven away in the back of his car by the IRA. He even moved his head in the same way when he realises what is happening.

Coach: "Where does he live?"
Ernie: "The posh part of Croydon."
Coach "There is no posh part of Croydon!"

Rebel Moon - I didn't like this at all.

Not really sure what was trying to be achieved but for me, it missed it by a mile.

Same here. I thought it was terrible. 4/10 - official me rating of "meh".

Great visuals, but the story was tired, and it completely failed to engage and develop characters. The lead actress lacked presence. Much as though I like her, I think she was the wrong choice.

Great visuals...

I didn't think it even had that. So much of it was lost in the murk of fog and overdone lens flare that it was lacking in visual clarity, most of the locations seemed generic and unoriginal, and the visual design of the different factions was poor. Ships could easily have been flying for any side, for example.

It wasn't bad, but it didn't stand out for me.

I think the biggest killer for me was the story. Within the first few minutes I thought OMG, so cliché, predictable, and ridiculous.

Once again, I fell asleep watching the final LOTR film, I'll have to comment on it properly after watching the last bit again.

The last film is by far the best of the three.

Ironically, I have the bookset also!

I think the most important thing, especially for those who don't have the books, is to watch the extended versions. There is so much more of the story in the extended versions.

Leave the World Behind 3/10.

A well produced film with an interesting premise but the film makes no sense and disjointed. My daughter said it’s confusing and didn’t make much sense to her. The film presented a lot of questions and never they there are answers any of them a lot like lost did back in the day. The ending is little abrupt after learning the what happened.
I have a similar opinion. Also...

The behaviour of the deer made no sense at all and was never explained. It felt like those scenes were added when the film was going to be ending a different way.

Rebel Moon - it was entertaining enough. It was a little generic but well shot and had great visuals. The pacing was a little off but if you like this genre, i would certainly at least give it a try. Hopefully it will improve when part 2 comes out. 6/10.

Godzilla Minus One. - what a gem of a movie. Really capture the essence of a good creature feature. Certainly back to basics for Godzilla. They did fantastic job with limited budget and made up with decent acting and good screenplay. Some of the big Hollywood blockbusters could learn a thing to two. 8.5/10.

Godzilla - 1

8/10

Really good all rounder.

Nothing absolutely 10/10 but nothing 6/10 either.

What I liked most is the actors/characters seemed real. Watch a Hollywood and they are "actors".

One word to describe? Authentic.

Starting to wonder if Hollywood's crown/dominance is failing due to too much "samey" content.

Exactly shows having all special effects and CGI can only go so far, that cant replace a good screenplay and acting.
