What film did you watch last night?

Gone With The Wind. 8/10.

The movie, not the aftermath of too much xmas food. First time I've ever watched it, over 3 hours long, and I wanted to see it through so I knew I'd ticked off another well known classic. It's excellent really, about a love affair between the characters Scarlett O Hara and Rhett Butler during the American Civil war. Also somewhat controversial with it's veiled racist undertones. Lots of american clichés and well known sayings like "Great balls of fire!" "Fiddley dee" and "Frankly dear I don't give a damn".

For some reason I decided to watch Home Alone 3, I've only ever seen the first two. 5/10

It was...lacking. Lacked a lot of the stuff that makes the first two good. The kid is just nowhere near interesting enough to lead the film like Culkin did. It lacks the whole...home alone part. His family are around almost constantly. And an 8 year old outsmarting a group of internationally recognised criminals is a bit more farfetched than a kid outsmarting a couple of really dumb burglars. It doesn't have any of the good, wholesome feeling elements that the first or second has (pigeon lady, the old guy he was scared of etc).

A couple of surprise appearances though, the janitor from Scrubs and a very young Scarlett Johansen as the kid's sister!

Guardians 3 - 6/10
Strange one this, some good moments, like rockets back story and also pretty dumb at times. Lots of chase the Macguffin of course. The CGI veers from really good to abysmal too.

Better than most recent marvel dross though.

The Village

I’ve never seen it but knew of the ‘twists’ long ago at the time of release.

Great set up and a great cast but overall such an incredibly unsatisfying film… very underwhelming indeed. The ‘twists’ are so lame it undermines the whole.

Really not very good at all - one to skip.

4/10

They are all great but think 3 is better than 2 for me.
Having watched 1 & 2 over the last couple of nights its muddled my opinion. They are both fun movies, as much as I loved Alan Rickman and his performance I prefer the bad guys in 2, William Sandler is much more sinister and brutal. There is a lot more going on in 2 but 1 is probably more edge of the seat stuff.

You should watch his comedy The Happening

Hell or High Water (2016) on Netflix.

It's mentioned previously in this thread, but is an incredible modern western with violence, humour and an ambivalent ending. 10/10 from me.
Been meaning to watch this - tonight sorted!

Villeneuve Pironi Racings Untold Tragedy (2023)

A motor sport documentary film in a similar vein to the film Senna (2010). I am surprised the story has not been made into a film like Rush (2013) which depicted the fight for the 1976 world championship (Lauda and Hunt).

Villeneuve is my favourite F1 driver of all time, so, I was keen to see this. It's good but missed a few bits of the story of the relationship between the two drivers. Decent overall. Even if you are not an F1 fan, it is worth a watch - like Senna, a captivating film.
