What film did you watch last night?

The Gorge - 5.5 / 10

I watched this due to the mainly positive reviews in this thread. It was actually a reasonable premise but I thought it was rather contrived.

Some great films over the weekend. Sometimes you get a series of awful watches but sometimes you get lucky!

A Complete Unknown - Really good Bob Dylan film
Goodrich - Bit more standard with a typical dad who's neglected kids all his life forced to shape up with an arc of redemption
Anora - Saw this on the Oscar lists and whilst enjoyable, the main girls general character just irritated me. Along with making me feel super old with some terrible soundtrack!
Companion - Take on the classic AI robot tale which has been done a bit but was entertaining enough

Watch Squad 36 - After a promising start this crime/police drama just does not give very much more. Too many unexplained ends just leave this movie flat and not worth the effort. - 4/10

The missus and I watched this last night.........we both thought it was great...

Loved the premise.

8.5/10

Breaking - Not the easiest of watch due to the subject matter with it being based on a true story but did a good job of building tension up throughout.

The Fall Guy. Totally throwaway but ok within it's genre. Didn't really tap into my nostalgia very much though. Having watched the series as a child this is a bit of a failure.

Watched A Complete Unknown on Sunday, thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought Chalamet's portrayal of Dylan was incredible and deserved the best actor Oscar, specially when you consider he did all the Dylan vocals himself. I spent a couple of hours playing Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde afterwards and that left me even more impressed.

Land of the Dead (2005)

Either Romero makes crap films or they don't age well at all. I'm in the former camp for the most part, because for a 2005 film it's still pretty awful. Maybe because I've seen so many films and great ones are so few and far between, I'm hyper critical of everything else. Either way, I wont be seeking of any more of his work in the future.

I'm also calling it. Dennis Hopper can't act.

3/10

If you watch Night of (1968), Dawn of (1978) as the B-Movie they were made as, you can see the influence he had over further generations. Problems is when you are trying do the same thing 40 years later it looks tired and stale.

As for Dennis Hopper he can play a very good Dennis Hopper, which limits him, but with the right script he is great. Easy Rider was his pet project - wrote and directed it. And I loved him in Speed - playing Dennis Hopper.

I actually quite like Hopper in Waterworld to be fair. And his scene with Christopher Walken in True Romance he holds his own, but it's still Walken that makes it so memorable.

Also, try Dawn od the Dead and Day of the dead, far better than his more recent movies.

'Papa' Hong Kong film based on the true story of a mentally disturbed teenage boy who kills his mother and little sister one night. Mainly focused on the dad (PAPA) and his survivors guilt and coming to terms with one of his most beloved killing their 2 other most beloved. Well acted and produced. Slow moving but not boring and follows a non-linear timline, pre and post murder. 6/10

mississippi burning....Hackman's passing got me wanting to watch this again, it's an absolutely marvellous film.

Saw a guy playing a very familiar role, had to look him up.."Tobin Bell"

The familiar role was, he played pretty much the same style of character in "the firm", which 10 seconds later clicked that also had Hackman in it.
