What film did you watch last night?

Paddington in Peru - 7/10

Nothing technically wrong with it but doesn't have the quality of the the other two films.
Yes it was very flat compared to the other two. The second being the highlight of the trilogy.

This one just felt a bit slow and missing some of the charm.

The Brutalist

Well acted but ultimately a boring story & a boring film.

3 Hrs:20 mins it's a fair old slog.

Save your time & watch something else.
Don't mind a 3 hour + movie as long as it holds my attention.

If i do watch this movie, think it would have to be in 2 or 3 parts going by the reviews on here.

All Is Lost (2013)

I've seen it before and think it's a great film, especially considering how little dialogue there is and that only Robert Redford appears on screen for the entire runtime. It's a testament to how good an actor he is, that you're interest never seems to wain at all.

8/10

Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)

Assume there is a first one, I'd never seen either before.

I didn't know what to expect, I wondered if it would be like Z Nation, I think they even had the same actress.

I actually quite liked Z Nation, this was a bit wtf, but I still just about enjoyed it.

5/10.

Personally I like the first Zombieland much more than the sequel.

Ben-Hur
9/10

I even remembered many scenes fondly from when I've seen it on tv as a kid about 25 years ago.

They don't make em like they used to. Buch of CGI fake rubbish and you need to properly pay attention as the speed of films today is insane.
I miss proper epic films like this, Lawrence of Arabia, Great Escape, Bridge on River Kwai, Spartacus, etc...

Also recently watched:

Braveheart (1995) 9/10, I knew the story of William Wallace from AOE2, imagine my shock when in the movie he lost at Falkirk, great flick though! And the hate for Edward Longshanks was real :D.
Thelma & Louise (1991) : 8/10, very nice.
Wrath of Man (2021) : 7/10 Enjoyable action flick but I think they overdid it with the many parallel side stories and the non-chronological telling.
Green Mile (1999): 7/10 Good Atmosphere, characters, acting, but the fantasy of it threw me off a bit.
Bottoms (2023) : 2/10 Rubbish, couldn't even finish it
Blood Diamond (2006): 8/10 Still amazing

Companion 6/10
Another AI horror film, a bit like subservience / Megan. Fairly well done, but a tad generic and predictable. The usual all men bad trope and the gay kissing are in there for modern audiences of course :p Worth a go if you are short of a film to watch though.

Terminator 2 (on Amazon Prime)

10/10 obvs but I just noticed something that blew my mind… it’s obvious but… I never thought about it.

The film takes place in 1995 / 1996! Not in 1991 when it was released, but in the future!!

This is shown because John’s birthday on the police computer is shown as February 1985… aged 10.

 *mind blown*

Scarecrow (1973)

Given the recent news about Gene Hackman, it seems appropriate that we watched this last night. Also starring Al Pacino, who I thought was a little too method with his performance and his improvisation was quite obvious at times.

7/10

Transformers one - Liked this more than most of the other films. Pretty good story that didnt out stay its welcome and not 3 hours of slowmo fights and explosions. I hope they make another.

Saw avengers / captain American /whatever it’s called at the cinema the other day.

4/10 … it’s just so meh, so much more of the same. I would have been just as disappointed if I’d watched it on TV too.

What I noticed a lot was the sound (music, effects, all of it ) taking me out of the film cause it just felt off. Like they just slapped sound on top the footage and it just didn’t fit or work. Just more franchise crap basically to me.

The boy enjoyed it though.
