The Outrun - 9/10
Wasn’t really what I was expecting, was expecting more sheep!

Sairose Ronan is absolutely superb in this and should have got the Oscar over Mikey Maddison in my opinion. Quite harrowing tale (and largely true I think) of an orcadian women in London developing a drink problem and the fallout of that and her subsequent return to the islands for personal rehabilitation. Visually stunning at times in the scenes on Orkney and quite a decent soundtrack as well from her love of dance music.

The General's Daughter (1999)

If 1999 is considered one of the best years for original and influential films, this one certainly didn't help with that honour. It's a passable military crime thriller that doesn't really go anywhere for the first 20 minutes and even when the main event kicks off it just plods along without much "thrilling" at all.

If Travolta's peak was 1994 -1995 (Pulp Fiction & Get Shorty) this one was definitely on the way down to the bottom of the trough of Battlefield Earth.

James Woods main scene was the only real highlight.

A Working Man (2025) - 5/10

A standard Statham action film which delivers just what you would expect with enough style to keep it entertaining, but no originality.

The plot is generic and the explanations for the main plot points are flimsy at best, but it serves its purpose, although I would have liked to see more of the ‘working man’ element come into it.

The characters are ok and there are lots of villains, each with their own outlandish style, and the fight scenes are frequent, entertaining and brutally violent.

Wooden acting, stilted dialogue, too serious and too long but for what it was, I enjoyed it.

Companion (2025)

Not too bad, quite original in some aspects or at least a well observed take on Ai. Ex Machina is a better film, on a similar subject, but this one is better than average with good performances from the two lead actors.

The Bounty (1984). Seen it countless times, one of my favourites. The most factually accurate film portrayal of the famous mutiny.

A stronger cast is pretty hard to find.

Anthony Hopkins
Mel Gibson
Daniel Day Lewis
Liam Neeson
Laurence Olivier
Edward Fox
Bernard Hill
John Sessions
Phil Davis
Dexter Fletcher
Neil Morrisey
