What film did you watch last night?

Electric State

Wasn't expecting much, since it seems to be universally slated, but those Simon Stålenhag inspired visuals made me want to watch it anyway. Perhaps going in without high expectations helped because I quite enjoyed it. The story is nonsensical but it looks good and there are enough entertaining little moments to stop it being boring.

A don't go out of your way but watchable 6/10
Just wish they had spent some for $320 million on a competent writer. And why use generic comedic guy? Visuals are good, but plot seemed to be a collision of multiple ideas without settling on one. Start felt very Spielberg-esque but then veered away. 5/10

One of the most expensive films in history, huh? 13th by nominal cost, 35th by inflation adjusted? That's mad. What were they thinking?

Oh, and I forgot to mention: why do film makers think they can cast women in their 20s to play teenagers? Millie Bobby Brown did her best with the material, but every time anyone reacted to her as if she was supposed to be a child it took me right out of any emersion. Either age the character up a couple of years (which, btw, would have worked just fine) or cast someone more suited for the role.

So worth a watch? I wasn't sure but can see it's on prime. Will give it go :)
Yeah, I'd give it a go. I quite like Kidman in movies, so worth a shot.
As said, IMO, it gets better quite a bit later on. The runtime is about right, wouldn't want it to be much longer.

The Game - 5/10. Michael Douglas is great as always, but it's too weird and implausible.

Master and Commander - 8/10. A film that always recommended, I'm glad I finally got around to watching it.

Downfall (2004)

I really enjoyed this and it's hard to criticise any aspect of it. The acting is great, the production design is superb and gives the film a real authenticity. Given the source material it was based on, you really felt like you were getting an accurate portrail of the events and that made it even more interesting.

Highly recommended

Amazing movie with a cop out ending. Saying he was mentally challenged rather than leaving it as a regular guy who just cracked from the world's BS.

Are you actually saying Hitler was just a ‘regular guy who just cracked from the world’s BS’ or are you mistaking Downfall for Falling Down with Michael Douglas. This has brightened my morning, thank you! :D

the preceeding michael douglas ref put me in that mindset too.

watched Matt Damons still water ... thought it was one of his better works (not unlike clint in on gran torino) a remake of the Odyssey, nice scenery too.

Brilliant! Been up since 4am, so yes, Downfall/Falling Down/Michael Douglas confusion - i was in no way defending Herr Hitler

I love the scene where Hitler has a heart attack on the golf course and Michael Douglas just laughs him. Great film.

Edit: I agree with you on it being a cop out. I'm wondering if they were afraid of vigilantism so made him out to be the bad guy. Apparently in US cinemas, people were loudly cheering him on in the first half.

Drop - Thriller about a single mom who goes on a date for the first time in a long time. SHe leaves her son with her sister who is babysitting him for the night. Once shes on the date though she starts getting mysterious messages and memes sent to her telling her to kill her date, who is a nice guy but she's never met him before. If she refuses to kill her date then her son will be murdered by the masked man shown to be hiding in the house on video footage.

Not bad! -6.5/10

The Amateur - Rami Malek is a CIA Cryp[tographer whose wife gets murdered during a terrorist attack in London. He decides he wants revenge but while he is CIA he is no assassin spy, can't fight, can't shoot etc but he wants revenge/blood!

It's kind of slow but not boring, i quite liked it- 7/10

Seen these two films over the last two days and completely agree with both assessments!

The Last Showgirl
Pamela Anderson, Jaime Lee Curtis
Something a bit different from the usual Hollywood fare. I enjoyed it. Good performances from PA and JLC.
