What film did you watch last night?

Rebel Ridge and The Kingsmen.

Picked Rebel Ridge for an easy, no fuss watch, nothing special but it didn’t disappoint. 6/10 would recommend but stress not to expect a big budget flick.

3rd time watching The Kingsmen, good movie all around, 7/10.

A Bronx Tale (1993)

It's probably been close to 30 years since I've seen this. I do remember being quite disappointed with it first time around. I was probably expecting something like Goodfellas, back then. Although it feels like DeNiro is ripping off Goodfellas at times, with the narrations, similar characters, camera movement and soundtrack.

This film feels like an extended version of Goodfellas' depictions of Henry Hills early life. As a consequence it's a bit slow paced and lacks any real dramatic pay off. Quite a few of the smaller roles were obviously played by first time or very inexperienced actors and they were quite wooden to say the least.

5/10

Cleaner. From everything I’d read about this it was going to be crap and despite not being set in December, it’s been called a Die Hard knock off. Given all that I’ve just finished it wasn’t as bad as I’d expected. Ok my expectations were low but I’ve seen a lot worse.

Fast X. 6/10. It is so comical that I love it now. At one point I was shouting at the screen for Dom to use his NOS to do something utterly against the laws of physics only for him to go and do it and feel justified with my egging him on. :D

Overall I'm giving it 6/10. But it felt like a film of two halves. I would rate the first half a 7/10 but the second half a 5/10. I loved the beginning.

The first 30 mins were fantastic, the remaining time felt like such a slog. It really, really tested my staying power. The film could've ended like 50 times but just carried on and on. And on. And on.

And on.

The Minecraft film was fun though, Momoa and Black were basically kids having the time of their life with a bit of a film happening around them.

The Life List on Netflix.

Did not expect to like this but that's the beauty of movies like this, they surprise. It ended up being somewhat relatable and an overall enjoyable movie with actors playing each role really well. Great Sunday evening flick.

Never Let Go

Halle Berry horror nonsense. Is she mental or is the bad stuff real type deal. Been done much better, many times before. Might be passable if that’s someone’s type of film.

3/10

Extreme Prejudice (1987)

There must have been a shortage of blood squibs in Hollywood after this finished filming, because Walter Hill used them all up.

It starts off promising, but never quite hits the heights of some of his other films and some of the dialogue is too wordy and almost non sensicle. There's also a bit too much Sam Peckinpah inspired/copied slow motion.

6/10

Electric State

Wasn't expecting much, since it seems to be universally slated, but those Simon Stålenhag inspired visuals made me want to watch it anyway. Perhaps going in without high expectations helped because I quite enjoyed it. The story is nonsensical but it looks good and there are enough entertaining little moments to stop it being boring.

A don't go out of your way but watchable 6/10
