What film did you watch last night?

Pacific Rim some of the worst acting I've seen in a long time. The lead character is awful, only knew his name at the end of the film as he's totally forgettable. Cliché characters including the typical brash Aussie, meek and reserved Japanese (?) girl, Russian who looks like Zangief out of Streetfighter and 2 scientists who are utterly cringe worthy .

First 40 mins are boring, second 40 are good for having a kip and the last bit monsters punch robots for a bit.
I know it's a turn brain off film but it's closer to have a full frontal lobotomy film. Visuals are good but you expect that from del Toro. I'm off to watch Pan's Labyrinth to make up for 2hrs + of having my brain made a fool of.

I've contacted IMDB to let them know someone's hacked the review page for Pacific Rim, there's no way it's got that high a score

Not impressed, the first third was kinda OK simply because it had some action. The middle third was very boring and just seemed to be padding the film out. The final third picked up a little bit but not enough to save a fairly dour film. It just didn't feel to me like there was enough there to warrant a 130min+ movie, considering how under-developed most of the characters are (it largely seems to be a vehicle for DW but I'd have liked to have seen more of the lawyer for example in a film that long)
edit: one redeeming feature was John Goodman, his character was good.

As an aside Denzel Washington seems to have a habit of playing characters where you can't quite work out if they are heroes or villains... I'm sure there's a better phrase for that.

The Plank - classic, almost silent, comedy from 1967. Two workmen try to deliver a plank to complete a floor with pretty funny adventures along the way. I watched it but felt it was different to how I remembered it as a kid, turns out it was remade in 1979. Still entertaining though. 3/5

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Guff. All these films are basically identical, in that they're all just a quest for the maguffin of the week, so anything beyond the first is redundant.

Have you seen The Big Lebowski ?

Admit it, it's for Jennifer Lawrence and nothing else :p

In fairness, there really is no better reason to watch a film. :D

Watched a few over the past couple of weeks whilst on a cruise.

Great Gatsby - 7/10. Quite enjoyed it, the inclusion of modern music was interesting (though didn't always feel like it fit well) and some of the editing was almost too snappy and frantic to keep up with at times. A lot of scenes had a rather odd, artificial look to them but I couldn't tell whether that was the style they were aiming for or the terrible picture quality; it was being shown on an awful projector in 4:3 and suffering colour bleed all over the place so probably not the best way to judge it. Still, quite enjoyed it.

Paper Man - 9/10. Loved this film the first time I saw it and loved it more the second. Great film, bit like Lost In Translation but with a different twist and rather more humourous. Probably one of Emma Stone's finest performances too, she's just great.

Now You See Me - 7/10. I had high hopes for this after hearing about the "crazytwist", but came away feeling a bit disappointed. Was hoping it'd be like The Prestige but it felt more akin to Oceans 11 with magicians and lashings of CGI. It's not really magic if the only way to do it is via fancy CGI work, but it was impressive nonetheless.

Hot Rod - 10/10. This and Super Troopers and tied when it comes to my favourite comedy film, it's just excellent. The falling scene never fails to crack me up either. Plus more of the lovely Isla Fisher is always welcome.

New Years Eve (2011). Not my choice, too many stories going on at one and looks like they just tried to get as many people into it as they could. 4/10

Pacific rim - Went as I expected really. Worth a weakish 7, maybe a 6.

Man of Steel - I fell asleep halfway through..

Fast6 - I've seen it a few times, I hope they go back F&F roots...flip cars, Letty missing form 20foot...all a bit weak.
