Impostor(2002). Amazingly, considering how big a fan of PKD I am, I had never seen this. The short story is probably one of the first things I ever read and I remember it quite well actually.

The film is just what I expected tbh- completely average. The short story is only a few pages long and is basically all based on a twist at the end. The film tries to pad it out over 90 minutes but fails unfortunately. It adds a few uninteresting angles and characters, as well as one neat new twist. The problem is that once you get a grasp on the set up, you are just waiting for the finale as it is obvious that everything else is pointless.

Tbh I think the biggest problem with the padding out of the film is the cast. Gary Sinise whilst solid, imo is just not a leading man and the support cast, also all solid on paper seem totally uninterested. The direction is also often a bit sketchy to say the least, with the feel of a cheap TV movie at times

Fant4stic. Thin Guy! InvisiGirl! Rockhead! The Black Man! Yes, your favourite characters from Marvel's least successful franchise are all here in glorious Technicolor.

Together they battle the evil Professor Green Cloak in a desperate struggle to control nonsensical technology for no discernable purpose. With even more plot holes than the last F4 movie, this hilariously incompetent reboot showcases Kate Mara in her worst performance since... every other production she's been involved with.

2/10.

Legend - 6/10
Hardy is alright in it, but I think it's Emily Browning that seems to light up every scene she's in. Other than that some of the supporting cast is weak and it just doesn't deliver a particularly gripping storyline, possibly 30mins too long.

Under the Skin - Scarlet Johansson drives around Scotland in a Transit van in this odd, slow, odd but entertaining low budget National Lottery funded film. I liked it more than most reviews on here. 3/5

Her narration is dire, though that's probably the fault of the script and of narration in general rather than being specifically her fault.

Detachment

I liked this film. It did seem a little try hard art. Further, I felt the dialogue was at times unconvincing and the characters didn't really have any back story, even the main character just had some blurry flash backs of his childhood. Yet it can still be possible to feel very connected to him, or his the adolescent hooker friend, or Grandad and some of the teachers. It was quite moving and the story didn't take the direction I thought it would, I thought it would be more about a teacher coming through at the end with a pleasant ending. But it wasn't really about education, well it was, but not about the education system, but instead much deeper like about education on life and how humans should care for one another. So it was quite depressing, but oddly not in a negative way, more reflective and thought provoking.

6.5/10 Worth watching

Thanks, I'll get this on order!

The Aggression Scale. Some people move to the country because of reasons. Bad things happen when other cast members become involved. As the plot spirals rapidly downwards into total implausibility you'll start looking for things to throw at the screen.

By the time the credits rolled, I was scoring pretty high on the aggression scale myself.

Horns Starring Daniel Radcliffe.

Man accused of killing his girlfriend and then grows horns which cause people to only tell him the truth and what their deepest feelings are. Doesn't know whether to be a horror film, drama or a comedy. 6/10.

Hidden. Brave attempt at reinvigorating the popular and well established family/drama/adventure/zombie/post-apocalyptic/psychological thriller genre, ruined by plot holes and clumsy twists.

4/10.

The Messenger. What would you get if you crossed The Sixth Sense with The Moth Man Prophecies? You'd get this miserable streak of cinematic urine. That's what you'd get.

4/10.
