What have you done to your car today?

Used duct tape at the weekend to patch up a terrible Halfrauds car cover, rubbish this has gone brittle in the sun and torn all over the place, need to find a decent replacement, its not even 6 months old :(

got to work. pulled in, went over the speed bump at entrance and BANG!
Seems the leaking rear shock put too much stress on old rear spring... it snapped.

Sigh... These B12's cant get here fast enough. Thankfully i have the rear springs from my old 2.2d which i will shove on when i get home. shouldnt take more than 30 mins if the bolts are not seized shut.

EDIT:

When I got home I looked through the garage. I found the set of springs I took from the 2.2D Mazda 3 and found that they were the same somehow. (i can only assume that in the past the MPS has had the wrong OEM installed).

Anyway, Thankfully the bolts were not that badly stuck, breaker bar and a buzz gun did their magic and happy days. Swapped both rear springs. This only took 45 mins too. I really like how easy it is to work on these cars.

Unfortunately, I must have thrown out the shocks, which is a shame as they were ok. I could have fixed it for good (well until I get round to fitting B12's)

A much better solution - that or just building a car port. Some fantastic portable garage options now, including folding motorised ones.

Finally got both N/S wheels off to get the tyres changed. Next job is to replace all the locking wheel bolts with normal bolts.

Most garages have a notice up that anything to do with seized nuts bolts etc. is chargeable, not sure most places would even offer to refurb the wheel - although if he's managed to break a finger you could try the "reasonable care and skill" route

they say the cos of wheel nut and labour is down to me but they will pay for refurb of wheel

They said it could take 2 days for all work so I worked it to my benefit, said I didn't want to lose it for 2 days so lets reverse it, they pay for removal and replacement of wheel nut/stud ( prob 1 hour labour) and I will pay for the refurb in my own time, as both have about same value they agreed

why it works for me is I am having all 4 wheels stripped of paint (keeps chipping) and having them powder coated in a few weeks :D

Cleaned all the exterior with snow foam then a combo of autoglym detailer and G3 polish. Had to order some good quality wire wool for my chrome along with specialised polish. Also cleaned out the entire engine bay to the point where it almost looks new.

The car is loving the new NGK plugs so I'll match them up with the same coils when the weather improves as it takes ages to get access to all 8.

Removed side skirt after it'd popped off slightly behind wheel arch and fitted correctly did require some bondo to get it to sit flush again.

Changed all my interior bulbs to LEDs. Still baffles me that a car with LED headlights and rear lights came with crap normal bulbs inside, but there we go. Really gives the cabin a fresher feel with nice white light.

Burnt the bushes out of the last drivers side wishbone arm ready for polybushing, painted the arm and painted the inner arches front and rear on the MX5! :D

An unknown person kindly did this. I've already ordered the reflector for £25, to we think this'll need a full bumper respray or just spot repair plus blend? It's only on that one corner

All the black bits won't as they're cut into the plastic. Glad it won't be a full respray though as I'm selling the car soon.

Ahhh so those are ripple marks not transfer? Still don't see it makes a massive difference to the repair (though the colour isn't going to help), but tbh a partial blended panel isn't massively cheaper anyway

Got to a petrol station. Filled her up.. 22MPG.. rough idle and pending error P0101... Great. Seems the MAF sensor is on the blink.
Had enough now... its going back to the dealer in the morning to be dealt with.

Less today, more last week (and a couple before for the exhaust) but still.

Had the stock exhaust modified by removing one of the two back boxes per side and replacing with an electrically valved straight pipe. I then built a circuit running a switch to the centre console (which I'm planning to make a bit more OEM as it's currently just a metal toggle switch). The result is a fairly quiet, drone free exhaust for daily use, with full-on V8 howl available at the flick of a switch.

Secondly, had the wheels refurbed by Lepsons - picked up from my door on Tuesday and delivered back to me on Friday.

Just need to see how long the finish will last. It's quite a complex finish that Lepsons call Black Chrome 2-tone, which is about as close a match to BMW's Shadow Chrome original as I'll easily get.

Whilst the wheels were away, I finally got around to the brake overhaul I'd been planning for a year. Completely rebuilt each caliper with new pistons, seals and boots, fitted EBC Red Stuff pads, stainless brake lines and flushed the system with AFe Typ200 then gave them all a lick of paint. Spent a bit too long painting in the stamped M logos, only to find that they can't be seen with the wheels on...
