Came to an arrangement to get rid of the black MX5. Should be out of my hair within a couple of weeks... Not done with the NA life though, I like the car, I just don't like how **** this particular one is. Another is in the pipeline, this one I actually went to look at, looked around it thoroughly and test drove it. The only issue with it is some sill rot which I'm arranging to have repaired before I collect it, by someone of my choosing.
It is another 1993 V-Spec. This one has some minor modifications but looks mostly stock. It has Koni suspension, an MX5Parts stainless exhaust and sports cat, and some freshly refurbished BBS RZ's off of a VW. It is plain jane, no stupid poke, no stupid tyre stretch, no wide arches, no rivets, no cable ties. It has 10 months on the MOT, 10,000 less miles, doesn't smoke, doesn't make funny noises, doesn't seem to leak as far as I could tell, and everything works aside from the drivers window (needs a new regulator, as is usual), even the AC (though not very well, probably has the wrong gas in it since it would originally have had gas you can't get anymore) - has good tyres too, all the way round... Always a nice sign.
Hopefully this time I get it right and can enjoy it for what it is without doing any stupid swaps or trades.
It is white, I'll be keeping my black hard top, and the wheels are a kind of metallicy anthracite sort of colour. It should look quite striking I think, while not being OTT.
I'm somehow coming out of this whole three MX5 event, essentially with the car mentioned above for about £2350, taking into account purchase prices and sale prices of all of them... Which means that overall by going through this rigmarole, looking at the actual value of the white one, I've lost about £500. I can live with that, funnily enough its about the same amount I lost with the whole Corolla/Celica screw up which preceeded this one.
As a side note I started the black one and moved it about 30 yards after it had been sitting for a week, it billowed out blue/grey smoke which was hilariously catastrophic to the point where I couldn't see where I was going when reversing, and it engulfed the whole house and went sailing off up the road in the breeze like an ominous fog. I chuckled at the spectacle, what else could I do.
