What have you done to your car today?

I gave her a good clean :)

It had been a while since I washed her properly. Ended up doing the following:

- Initial rinse with pressure washer (my snow foam attachment didn't arrive.... *sigh*)
- Two bucket wash with Meguiars Ultimate shampoo (nice smell and worked better than the Auto Glymn one I already had)
- Towel dried
- Clay bar + Meguiars Quick detailer as lubricant
- Polished / waxed with Auto Finesse Tripple3 <- really impressed with this compared to SRP.

All intermixed with me tripping over the pressure washer multiple times as I kept forgetting it was there (I was using a watering can before getting it delivered today... :p).

Not perfect as I am missing some form of tyre shine and metal polish (is autosol still the go to for this?) for the exhausts. I was also using a mixture of items I already had and new stuff.

Overall though I am pretty happy, the visible swirl marks (yay for Black paint....) have all but been hidden and it now looks like when it was new again.

The only issue with it is some sill rot which I'm arranging to have repaired before I collect it, by someone of my choosing

Just waiting for next weeks "I paid to have the sills repaired on somene elses car and now they can't sell it to me because <insert implausible excuse>" thread :D

On topic - Did an oil/filter change on the Volvo today and took a few years worth of accumulated bottles of used oil to the tip (about 40 litres in total!)

That would be pretty stupid, which is why they are paying for it themselves and I'm paying them slightly more for the car once its been done. ;)

Came to an arrangement to get rid of the black MX5. Should be out of my hair within a couple of weeks...
I'm somehow coming out of this whole three MX5 event, essentially with the car mentioned above for about £2350, taking into account purchase prices and sale prices of all of them... Which means that overall by going through this rigmarole, looking at the actual value of the white one, I've lost about £500. I can live with that.
As a side note I started the black one and moved it about 30 yards after it had been sitting for a week, it billowed out blue/grey smoke which was hilariously catastrophic to the point where I couldn't see where I was going when reversing, and it engulfed the whole house and went sailing off up the road in the breeze like an ominous fog. I chuckled at the spectacle, what else could I do. :D
How are you only coming out £500 down? If the black one is as bad as you have made it sound you are obviously conning the new buyer of it as nobody with a brain is going to pay you anything for that if it's pouring smoke all over the place.

Nope, he has looked at it and knows that it burns oil. He's paying me 500 quid less than I paid for it, he already has a spare engine and will probably have it in and running within a couple of days. The guy is nuts for it, he contacted me about it because he saw pictures of it on Instagram and loved it. :p Its worth more than he's paying me in parts anyway. No wool being pulled over anyones eyes. :) I like the guy.

Decided to detail the wheel arches and inside of the wheels themselves, got a little sidetracked by this...

3 month old Carbone Lorraine RC5+ pad ****** after just 2 track days and very light road use. Not happy at all considering the price per set . Thankfully I have a set of half worn Ferodo DS2500's to keep my going until I can argue a resolution with the place that sold me them....

Have seen/read of the CL RC5/RC5+ pads shearing off the back plate a few times, put me completely off them. A shame as the stopping power seems good, but they're not cheap and failures like that are deeply worrying.

I was almost set on RC5+ pads for the Impreza but after seeing this and doing some more reading, I think I'll have to reconsider.

I know failures like this are few and far between in the grand scheme of things and that no pad is perfect, but is it worth the risk?

My dad speaks very highly of Ds2500 on his Widetrack (Mind you they're paired with AP/Cosworth 6 pots)
