What have you done to your car today?

Well today I traded in my Mustang GT for a Focus RS. Needed a more practical car and Focus seemed to fit the needs nicely.

Much more subtle car too:)

2 epic looking cars :p how do they compare performance and driving wise? Which Mustang did you have the ecoboost or the 5.0?

Was a 5.0 Mustang. Completely different cars. RS is much easier to drive quickly but probably not as rewarding. The sound is very different as expected. Both cover ground very quickly but the RS seems more usable for a non pro driver. I always struggled putting the Mustang through corners. I needed more training but the RS is just so much more sure footed.

Still bedding the RS in so not pushing too hard yet. Have to say the grip in the RS is unbelievable and is confidence inspiring. It's like a big go kart really. I don't think it will cruise as nicely as the Mustang though and will always feel more rushed.
 
My dad speaks very highly of Ds2500 on his Widetrack (Mind you they're paired with AP/Cosworth 6 pots)

I was always tempted by the DS2500 when I had my Rover, but even a quick search on Google shows pictures of those pads crumbling away. You just can't win, hah! I wonder if people expect too much from certain pads, perhaps incorrectly bedding them in or running a track pad on a daily? I've read quite a bit about the RC5+ absorbing water which can lead to failure. I tend to bed my pads in hard yet am not particularly heavy on them on the road, however I am thinking of doing a few more track/sprint days so need to consider using something that is up to the job.

I'd never seen anything about DS2500 coming apart before, it does seem that a lot of performance brakes seem to have been bashed at one point of another for either falling apart or crumbling. Lots of horror stories about EBC yellows but I'm not far off finishing a set and they've been absolutely fine
 
Just under £4k. RS lists at £34950 with my spec. I got £31k for the Mustang after 12 months. I paid £36.3k on 31st May 2016. For losses on new car traded to main dealer I was happy. I could have maybe got £32k to £34k private but sales seem slow and yellow isn't an easy colour to sell and some people have spent weeks advertising with no luck. The RS was in stock at dealer and matched spec I wanted. I enquired on Sunday and picked up today. :)

I agree completely. That's how I settled on the RC5s. I'd read loads of stuff about the old pad compound bonding to bodywork and rusting but the RC5+ seemed to alleviate this. It's only after tonight that I've found comments about the pad separating.

Suppose it's down to the cost of the item. You won't go online and rant about your cheap pads failing, but after blowing £150 on a set you (rightfully) will go online and warn others. With the amount of performance pads sold and the different usage characteristics, you're bound to get some failures along the way.

Just creates a bit of a minefield when you're looking for an uprated pad yet every one appears to have some reports of serious (yet small scale) failure.
 
Replaced the 17 year old top engine mount, safe to say it was past its best. New polybush is surprisingly not to bad regarding the vibration.

I've had EBC Red Stuff, very hard wearing but not as high friction coefficient. No failures. DS2500 front and rear. Much better bite, rears still on the car no failures. CL RC5+ currently on the front. Best bite and stopping ability and little fade. Much lower dust than I had been led to believe.

Though my car is not driven that much each year for example I'm just about to go for an hour mapping/logging session which will require holding the car under load on the brakes and repeated acceleration and hard braking from speed to capture enough data samples in a wide range of loads.

Lightish car with lots of torque makes it quite a task to hold the car long enough in certain cells to gain enough data samples :) I have to use steep hills and braking to do this or pony up and pay for dyno time.

About the pads seperating? I've run them on three cars. Never had issues, but then again I've probably only covered about 25,000 miles on them in total.

I was thinking of running something different next time because my my wheels get covered in dust and look totally filthy well before the rest of the car.
 
Yesterday, installed HSD's and part fitted a new headunit, today will be finishing the headunit install, couple of antennas to fit and update the ROM and get it set up, also washing the car once the sun goes away, its already 22 degrees not even 10am!

Was 8pm before I could wash the car last night, could have fried an egg on the paintwork before then!
 
I'm opting for an exhaust system as my current one has seen better days. Still undecided between a milltek, and a custom one.
 
Sheared the bolt that clamps the hub to the strut, and I don't have the kit to remove it myself...

Well that's the car staying on stands for the week... Dad to the rescue giving me his car for the week!
 
I called it a day, at 1pm, the entire car was just radiating heat, dont think im gonna get a chance to wash it today!

Fortunately the car was in shade by 4pm, so mine has finally had a bath. I do love how the Navarra blue paint looks in the glorious sunshine, but washing the car in this kind of weather is a PITA!

Water in my area is quite hard, basically if its not overcast and below 14/15 degrees i dont clean the car because its a complete nightmare, last time i washed it was 3 weeks ago!
