What have you done to your car today?

I opened my rear passenger door for the first time in a while today, then this happened:

This car does not like me at all -_-

Nearly all the good bits have been stripped off of the Eunos now. All thats left are engine ancillaries, and any underpinnings that people want like calipers, wishbones, etc. Doors look like they have a buyer too.

New car shopping at the moment... The primary contender is a 2010 Seat Exeo 2.0 TSI Sport. One previous owner, 91,000 miles, full history, no MOT advisories, good condition, Eagle F1's all round which can be taken as a good sign. Though I'm browsing Octavia VRS' as well at the moment. There are a few other considerations like IS250's and other bits and bobs, but I'm ultimately trying to be a bit sensible.

Don't touch a vag 2.0tsi of that era (2009-2011ish) unless it's either had the chain tensioner and guides done or you're prepared to fork out to have them changed. (Not that expensive a job, £4-600ish).

They're also incredibly boring to drive, which is fine if you are buying as a boring ) mundane car with a bit of power, but if you want something remotely involving just go elsewhere or you will end up spending money making it mildly more interesting.

The Exeo is actually a great value family thing, but I can't see how it would be remotely appealing for yourself (apart from the whole doomed engine thing as we know you like a lemon). My FN2 was a vastly better car to both drive and run than the Octavia aside from outright power(due to remap), rear doors and boot space plus can be had for similar money.

There is zero chance he will take notice of any advice. He never has done. Just sit back and wait for the thread.

Well now thats not strictly true is it. :p

So the TSI's have issues... And here I was thinking that by getting a relatively modern VAG with a 2.0 TSI, I would be making a sensible move for once...

They're a pile of poo. Get a gti or something.

Are the older TFSI's alright? To be honest I was just looking for something comfortable and easy to drive, with a bit of spec. The Exeo seemed like a good shout because it was about the newest thing in budget, being a 2010. Seemed like good value.

A MK5 Golf GTI would be several years older and more money, though I do like them.

The tfsi have their issues but doing your homework will help. They're generally quite reliable. They can be had for not much money at all these days either.

Erm, TSI is what VW badge a TFSI engine. TFSI is what Audi badge a TSI engine.

They are the same thing, the EA888 engine. In this instance in 2.0 litre form.

Don't go confusing TSI/TFSI with the 1.4 twin-charged TSI engine, that WAS a problematic (albeit nice to drive) engine.

Generation 1 EA888 engines had oil pickup and potential oil-burning problems, but certainly not all of them. This was mainly resolved for generation 2 EA888 engines.

Can still use a load of oil, but replacing the PCV and getting any software updates done will improve things if not already done. Cam Followers wear through and can cause damage to the engine if unlucky. Diverter valves go regularly as well.

Fitted two piece disc at weekend, not the lightest but still a 3kg saving per side over stock and look miles better. :)

I thought the TSI was an all new revision? As you can get say, a 2006 A3 with a 2.0T FSI, or a 2011 A3 with a 2.0 TSI.

On tuning sites etc they are listed seperately as well.

Not exactly - the older TFSIs are the EA113.

The EA113 2.0 was originally known as the TFSI by both Audi and VW. The newer EA888 was where VW changed to TSI branding iirc.

The EA113 is belt driven, the EA888 chain driven.
