What have you done to your car today?

We're comparing it to an mx5 or am e30 BMW,

It's likely the average E30 is more well equipped than an EP3. You can't honestly claim with a straight face that an EP3 has 'most of the usual creature comforts' because:

a) That isn't really what it was about, being the last 'proper' Type R in many peoples eyes
b) Other than the AC fitted to some of them the most advanced creature comfort it has is power steering or remote locking :D

If somebody wanted a stripped hot hatch for driving fun over everything else its a great choice. But a bizarre alternative to an Exeo.

Personally I think that an Exeo is an odd choice, granted the E30 is old, but is it really worth your second car being essentially the same as your first?

A hot hatch or a sports car make far more sense alongside the E30 than another rep-mobile.

Your suggestion makes it difficult as it seems Acme doesn't want/doesn't feel able to use the E30 as a regular car (Which I understand, I wouldn't either).

Thus, I think it's the E30 that's the odd choice. If you've got a regular car for boring stuff and a project/toy then surely you'd want the project/toy to be the interesting car and the regular car to be the practical one.

Whereas in this situation the toy is... a 3 Series estate?

True, but the E30 already exists and he's put a decent amount of time, effort and money into it (wouldn't have been my choice of a project car, but hey-ho). In an ideal world, his "main" car would be something of a workhorse, a jack of all trades, and the project car something more focused.

Thus in his situation I think I'd look for something that has the creature comforts and sound deadening to be used as a daily, but still offering something that they E30 doesn't (top down motoring, more precise handling, possibly a turbo, etc).

Can a 350z convertible be had in budget?

Well if he was to commute 150mi a day on a motorway I'd say yes, ep3 is a terrible suggestion but for a town/daily driver that probably does 30mi or so a day it'd be perfect for a young man who likes fun to drive cars.

I mean I commute/daily my Z4 and only thing it has over ep3 with AC is heated seats. I'm young enough to not care about stiff suspension or extra road noise. I personally feel like ep3 CTR would be spot on for acme because he likes messing with his cars, he loved his corolla and loved ragging the nuts of his polo.

CTR does all that and gives extra space over mx5, honda reliability and will still do the daily hack tasks. I'm actually tempted by one my self haha.

Comfort wise of course you can't compare it to a well specced F10.

Acme, given the terrible luck you have with relatively mundane cars, I think your next car should be something like a first gen Cayenne or a W220 Merc S600. It's not like they'll be any less disastrous than what you've had before, and at least for the few days each month when they work they'll be a real pleasure to drive :p

Acme if you have £3k tops. Just get a small petrol round around. If you're lucky you can possibly find a decent ep3 but the majority will be screwed with. They're not cars people buy to drive softly.

Knowing your luck you'll end up with as shed of a ep3. I wouldn't buy one in your shoes.

To be honest I'm back to not being sure I what I want so just go back to ignoring me for now while I try some stuff :p

Do take CTR for the spin tho! :) Just so you can see what it's all about. That black one looks pretty decent from the advert.

I took a pre facelift one for a spin before I bought my Corolla. It was a nicer drive, but I don't think its worth twice as much. :p

Maybe I'll end up in another Toyota... Wouldn't that be great... :D

Two new run-flats on the front of the F56 Cooper S, so £300 lighter this afternoon;

No reason for picture other than I think the motor looks tidy! :D

Creature comforts and an auto box and you recommend an EP3?

Get a mondeo.

So, after a little bump I had a few months back. The driver put in a claim against me which has now ****** me over on my insurance!

Rather than sorting it out privately as it was only a little bumper to bumper contact and he claimed I damaged it, he went the stupid way. Would have been cheaper for me to pay for it.
