What have you done to your car today?

So, after a little bump I had a few months back. The driver put in a claim against me which has now ****** me over on my insurance!

Rather than sorting it out privately as it was only a little bumper to bumper contact and he claimed I damaged it, he went the stupid way. Would have been cheaper for me to pay for it.

:mad::mad::mad:

Did you offer to pay for it at the time?

What were the circumstances? Any witnesses?

Yes, this was the damage I supposed to have caused...

I gave him my details and asked him to get a private quote and let me know as would probably work out cheaper. This happened in April. He put the claim in end of June...

Was really slow moving traffic, 1/2mph crawl. My foot was on the clutch whilst in 1st gear, foot slipped off cause I was rearranging my testicles in my jeans. Resulted in a little bump to the car in front. Don't get me wrong, I should have been a little further back etc.

No damage to my car what so ever.

Took the Focus in to have a new reversing switch fitted, as been having intermittent issues with rear parking sensors, noticed on one occasion that reversing lights didn't come on either. Hopefully covered by warranty - claim has been submitted - hardly going to be wear and tear at 34k miles/5 years old.

Well yesterday went to get tracking check done at the tyre fitter I know and trust (free check £25 if it needs adjusting) to find out because of the radar on the front of the car it is dealer only! So go and ask the VW dealer how much it would cost......£65 to check and £200 if it needs anything doing. Knowing about the tracking and radar I knew it wasn't "dealer only" unless it was way out so declined their quote.

Went to Mr Tyre literally across the road who checked it for free and adjusted it for £29. Then one of the lads dropped into the conversation that VW take their cars there to be done most the time anyway.

Had front discs and pads changed recently. Stops very well and straight, no squealing, etc.

However, there's a rumbling when braking from ~90+

Anything to worry about?

Typically a vibration when braking is caused by warped discs. If this is only a minor warping it will be far more pronounced at higher speeds.

As I suspected. What can I do about it? Go back and demand new discs? I certainly didn't do any emergency stops in the first few hundred km..

Something not right there. They should not warp unless you have literally had the brake disks glowing with heavy use.

Is there a free or cheap mileage history check resource online which goes back further than the gov.uk MOT history check

Give them a proper stop... a 'my face hurts' kind of stop(to 10mph, not a stop) then keep driving to cool them down

I am such a muppet! The old e39 was dropped off for a MOT this morning, I thought I had checked everything but noooo, it failed on a bloody number plate light. The bulb had not gone mind you, it is a LED bulb and it had rotated 180 degrees so the heatsink was facing down. :o:rolleyes:
