What have you done to your car today?

Considering a lease, to keep myself out of trouble for a few years... :p

A Polo GTI 1.8 TSI DSG for 180~ a month with 1800~ down for 3 years, 10,000 miles a year sounds tempting.

Would it feel like I'm driving someone elses car though? I'm not sure how I feel about it.

You don't strike me as someone who would benefit from being locked into a car purchase for 3 years. Being young, you might find the monthly payment holds you back as life can change a lot in 3 years. Leasing is very limiting and of course not always as cheap as they seem. 8k over 3 years seems a lot tbh. You could have a 2-3k car and 5k+ in the bank instead if you buy the right car. You might end up keeping that car for three years but you have all the freedoms a young person wants with the added value that in 3 years time, a 2-3k car doesn't matter if it has added bumps and scratches becasue it'll be worth sod all anyway.

I've had my Type-S GT 4 years, it's got 133k and aside from consumables (two sets of £70 a corner tyres and ~£130 every year for full service parts) it's cost me just over £300 extra to fix the air con and replace my front shocks & bump stops myself. It's got auto lights, wipers, cruise control and being a 1.8 petrol goes well. It's a manual though, the auto is not worth looking at. Sure the interior has its issues after so many miles and the ride is a bit hard (17s help this, mine has 18s). When you want it to move it revs high and goes well enough. It's no Type-R which is what I owned in the past, but it's a great compromise for a daily driver. It's had a very hard life with me, done lots of miles over the last few years. It's also greatly practical, great boot space esp with seats folded down. It was a 6k car when I bought it over 4 years ago, but all in its probably cost me closer to 8k in total so far. They're around 3k now so you could save an easy 3k and have it to sell at the end.

So 8k for 2 years on a Golf R is great but 8K for 3 years on a Polo GTI isn't?

Sounds about what it should be to me!
Seems about right for me tbf.. the question is would you be able to handle owning a single car for 3 years with 0 mods to it ? ;)

I somehow doubt that you will.. I'd even go as far as saying take a low apr bank loan and buy a decent car with it..

8k isn't great for the Golf, no. The bargain deals people went on about were less than that. You could own the Polo for less and the bargain leases are the ones where you can't do that.

Either way the Golf is a much more expensive car anyway so not comparable.

The good value hot hatch lease lately has been the Seat Leon.

I'd quite like to just not have to worry about my daily car for a while whilst I hopefully save some money and grow up a bit. Should also get me used to keeping a car for a bit longer, I can't keep chopping and changing things all the time like I do currently...

Plus it would be nice to drive a brand new car for a change.

But it is a lot of money for me, manageable, but its just deciding if its worth it and if it makes sense.

How much money do you think spending 8k to drive a Polo is going to save?

You'll decide you want out of it within 6 months anyway which will then end up costing a fortune.

Insurance will be pricey for a brand new vehicle.

Why not go for a non-GTI? I know you want the engine but is it necessary? Just putting out ideas for cost savings

Have just found another GTI, £161 a month and a £1457 deposit over 3 years + admin fees.

Sounds cheap when I put it like that, but on the other hand it works out as £3500~ for the first year and £1900~ for the second year, and also the third.

Meh. Can get a decent car for the money I'd be spending in year 1 alone. Never mind...

FOUND IT! Rear right wheel. Forscan actually had the PID's to see the PSI's.

I reduced each wheels PSI by 5 and watched. ONLY one wheel didnt change from 32.5 and that was WU3 on rear right.

Perfect

Is this the old (current) Polo, or the soon to be released one?

Still a decent car, and the second deal isn't terrible, but I'd always be thinking that they might drop further or that the new one has similar deals.

You're bouncing around all over the shop with this Acme, from brand new Polo to 350Z via anything else that moves...... it must be incredibly hard work being you.

Which is why signing on the dotted line for a binding 3 year financial commitment for £8000 is probably about the silliest thing he could do, IMHO.
