What have you done to your car today?

Yeah anything with a CSL name to it is ££££££

Did you know that the CSL keyring (which doesn't even look all that special compared to the carbon fibre official M keyring) is so sought after, that one guy put in £500 for one at auction, for a USED one?!

Speaking of airboxes, I was convoying with a random pre-facelift E46 M3 today through Hindhead Tunnel. He dropped a few gears and booted it in the tunnel, I couldn't hear much, more like a wasp from only the exhaust. No induction noise echoing in the tunnel. I did the same as it just resonated through the tunnel beautifully.

Can only imagine what the full CF plenum would do as well since I've only got the Eventuri, so only got most of the induction noise gains. I think the CSL exhaust manifold also makes a difference to the sound as it wasn't standard on non CSL cars before 2005.

Finally got round to replacing the wheel bearings/hubs on my 640d that I suspected where bad when I replaced the discs and pads.

Off with the old:

On with the new:

Wheel bearings are best replaced in pairs, so the NSF was done too :)

Very satisfying job and the only extra tools I had to buy where some 12 point spline and Ribe/polydrive bits. Probably saved myself over a grand doing the job myself.

Other jobs completed where replacing the windscreen wipers and 'super cleaning' the windscreen using Chris Fix's method (although I RainX'd instead of waxing it).

I'd been trying to get my steering wheel clean and back to it's original matt finish but nothing ever worked. I've found the solution! A JML Doktor Power Magic Eraser worked amazingly well.

I also updated the satnav from 2012 to 2017 version with a £45 download from ebay :).

I just need to get some new tyres for the front and the alignment checked/adjusted and that's the car done for a while (I hope!).

Don't use rainX on the windscreen. It causes really bad smears when you use the wipers.
Except that it doesn't, I'd guess you're applying too much and not fully removing any remaining excess.

I've never had a smearing issue from it, the entire point of the stuff is to put it on your windscreen :p

It smeared badly for me, even after scrubbing like hell to get it off. Took weeks to go :/

It was actually designed for aircraft cockpit glass, which don't use wipers.

I had issues with it on 2 new cars that I'd bought. It had obviously been applied and then as it started to wear off it caused really bad streaking. Couldn't clean it off for love nor money and got an MOT advisory as a result!

RainX is a waste of money. It lasts weeks at most on the windscreen. I've always mentioned this as it is one product I used for a while whilst I was trying out different things to keep the windscreen and side windows in check. Really the best way is to apply a coat of wax like the video above shows. 476s is brilliant for that purpose and will last many months. I don't use a claybar though to prep the windscreen, but instead a carbon tipped blade. As long as you're lubing the surface often and have good motion, you'll never scratch the glass.

Agree on it not lasting long but never had any issues with streaking etc.

I can't say I've ever had a problem with RainX, apart from being mesmerised by the rain drops going upwards on the windscreen when driving at relative speed :).

@Mysterae_

The magic erasers work because they're slightly abrasive so remove the surface. Don't use them too often!

Thanks for the warning, first time using it and hopefully I won't have to clean the steering wheel that often. I'm just happy I've found something that actually works!

I wouldn't say a waste of money, it is what it is. The more you make use of something the shorter it lasts. I would have liked to have tried the wax method on the windscreen but didn't have any left. Something to try the next time for sure.

It's ok for the side and rear windows and it will help stop them fogging up or freezing in winter.

I use autoglym glass polish or fast glass usually for the windscreen.

The standard plenum is plastic and is very muted by comparison.

To be honest, although the CF airbox that Evolve charge is meant to be almost perfect, the £3000 that they charge is pretty mad. Karbonius ones are reported to be high quality and very well designed, yet they only charge £1300.

The Genuine BMW ones are about £5000

Forgot to say, the issue is also the fact that it's still well over £1k + the time for the ECU mapping required for it on a car that's well under £10k now. Come come to get rid, nobody is going to give a second glance at the airbox to even consider paying any extra for it. I'll just to the Eventuri. That thing cost £500 and has transformed how the car sounds in everyday driving. I think that aloe will easily sell itself when a potential buyer hears it on the road.

I have used both Gyeon and Gtecniq Windscreen coatings, get a good 12 months+ out of them. I think i prefer the Gtecniq one out of two, and the Gyeon anti fog, is really good on the inside

Funny you say that. End of last month i had insurance quotes for a new van around £360, managed to buy one Monday just gone and the cheapest quote with the exact same details and spec van come in a £460 which is what i had to go for in the end... Similar with are Focus aswell, Luckily we clicked for it to start on the 10th so the quote was valid until then as the prices again jumped up about £80 from last months quotes.

Dropped it at the dealer to have a new bumper and bonnet fitted, courtesy of my girlfriend's ineptitude :(
So I get to drive Toyota Aygo with a weird automated manual gearbox for the next week or so.

Oh well. At least it means I'll have no stone chips for a while :)
