What have you done to your car today?

Gave it a proper clean, used some AG polish seems fairly decent, I often us Aqua Wax which I will probably top this up with.

My original gas struts for the boot lid were showing signs of corrosion and were creaking when opening the boot. To be expected at 10+ years old really and there hasn't been a single E46 where I've seen the boot open without creaking at this age either. I looked on ECP, they were under £20 each, but no extended warranty.

I looked on eBay, loads available with many stating 10 or 15 years warranty, some with lifetime warranty for the same price. Obviously the eBay ones come from Taiwan/China... Can't be bad if they make such bold claims right?

Wrong.

Seems the gas compression doesn't last that long.

Luckily, GSF do stock lesjofors gas struts which are really good quality and made in the UK, except they are not in stock from any branch near me, great, and not available for delivery either.

The original ones were OEMd by Magnetti Marelli iirc, but can't find them online to buy anywhere. And from memory, BMW want £37-ish per strut... The GSF ones seem to be the logical option for OEM quality in this instance if they were in stock.

Looks like it's time to get shafted by the Germans, all for a boot lid that opens in a refined manner.

I was actually cleaning the boot carpet with the mf cloth and upholstery foam at that moment (was hauling some loose crap over the weekend).

We don't believe you. You drive it in a full body suit don't you. :p

Round and round in your hermetically sealed bubble!

My local store appear to have them in stock, I know someone who lives not too far away who could bring them near you, unsure if that'd be this weekend though, but I can ask tomorrow.

If they can do that, then I'd be most grateful!

The OEM ones should be made by Stabilius.

Don't get any others, even MM ones as they are known to be far too powerful and cause the boot lid to fly up.
