What have you done to your car today?

Stock 115k mile bottom end and a weedy Subaru WRX TD04 turbo.

It's been at the baseline power figure since March and made 10 1/4 mile passes and done two days at Curborough so chances are if it was going to break it would have done by now

My friend has a mk 2.5 but his only makes low 200's. I guess the older engine is a lot stronger?

How much meth do you run? Do you mix it in the main fuel tank or do you run extra injectors/pump etc.

That's a cracking power figure for that boost level IMO. Is the TD04 the typical choice of turbo for these builds?

20% Meth. So 5 litres meth + 20 litres Vpower mixed in tank.

WRX TD04 is probably the most commonly used turbo on MX5s in the UK. They're cheap, reliable, and suitably sized. I thought I was going to need something bigger to hit that magic 300

Remind me, what version of Megasquirt do you run? Can it detect and adapt to the fuel blend or do you have to reflash a different map if you wanted to run 100% petrol for example?

Yeah, that was my thinking with the TD04 too but I wonder how many people fall short because they don't run meth.

Its an MS2, but with a CAN expander that adds a bunch of extra features. I could use a flex sensor but I've never been able to find a definitive answer as to whether they work with meth properly or not. I've got a switch on the dash that allows me to toggle between spark/fuel tables for straight petrol or meth/petrol mix

Ahhh nice. I had MS2 on one of my Rovers, had it running but it never saw the road for various reasons. Was good fun installing it and I'll never forgot that first start.

I'll probably move away from EcuTek on the Scoob at some point in the future. Not sure whether I'll go open source or another brand of ECU yet though. Need to do a bit more research.

How does meth/water work. Is it just mixed with the petrol in the tank or does it have to be In seperate tank with a separate pump?

Most people use a water/meth injection kit. You have a small tank with a pump and a nozzle just after the Intercooler.

Most people don't want to deal with the hassle of mixing it in tank

It's like putting a 5 liter can of thinners into a tank. Gives you more Ron so more det protection. Google Saab thinners. It is quite a thing in the Saab community because the trionic series of ECU's adapt. I normally throw a can in my Celica when I go on track just for the added protection.

It is also most likely why he is seeing such high numbers. A 15t will struggle to break 300bhp on a B235R so a 13t on a Mazda engine is doing quite well!
