What have you done to your car today?

Picked up some 5W30 fully synthetic oil for £12 for 5l. They even do a 20L cube for £30, which is a crazy bargain!

Just ordered some Fulldip (plastidip alternative) for one of the front grills that's peeling and to cover over some other lower bumper bits. Will post up on here when done and how good the stuff is.

Four new tyres fitted ready for the bad weather.
Michelin crossclimate plus ;)

Nice! I can only get the standard type as + version seem to be lower profile :(

Custom mapping (dyno) done on the Golf by Unicorn Motor Developments in Stoke.

Car was running an email style map (stage 1) when I got it and with the scorpion catted downpipe, TT inlet hose the car made a baseline run of 340HP / 390lb

I asked Rick the tuner for following from the car:
- Remove deadspot from the go pedal
- More aggressive throttle mapping in all modes
- NO pops and bangs
- ECO mode to be running stock VW map with stock boost, just modified for the hardware changes which don't really effect running, ideal for motorway cruises as it will return around 40mpg
- Race mode to be all out
- Make the torque curve flatter, so the car does not feel as flat up top.

The results as above, just from the custom mapping, a good 30-40HP gain after 5000rpm and gains beginning from 3500rpm.

Too drive its an improvement for sure, its smoother and now the car is enjoyable to rev out, before it felt a little too manic around 3000rpm, which meant the car felt really flat beyond 4000rpm and doing a kickdown at say 70mph the car picked up but was a little flat. Now doing a kick down and it feels absolutely bonkers and just flies off down the road, the power in the top-end is night and day improvement. Also the MPG now seems greatly improved when driving it hard which is also a bonus.

Below is a quick LC run, launch control is now so easy and feels so gentle on the car. I also noticed my front wheels spinning at Pod on Sunday, was told to check the Haldex filter (none service item) and it was as expected gunked up, so all cleaned and now as you can see in below video the car just hooks up with just a chirp of the wheels and no bogging.

I ran a 12.2@116mph without LC at the Pod before this custom mapping.

Rick the tuner, who runs a stage 1 on his car which made 359/360 on same dyno said his runs 11.7@118mph with LC at Pod. He says a none LC run should now net me around an 11.9@120mph and an LC run will be around 11.5s in the quarter mile and around 120mph terminal. It feels silly quick and I've never owned a car that was so fast for so little horsepower, its uncanny how quick this thing is. :)

That’s a really quick car that  lol. Can’t be much on the road that could beat a modded Golf R from standstill when using the LC in real world driving

Not much compares even without the LC as its still sub 4s.

With LC, circa:
0-60mph: 3.5s
0-100mph: 7.5s
0-200kmh: 13s

Its just rough timing but there abouts, the fact it does this in the wet too is the real party piece. :D

Took my key apart to find out what batteries it uses as my RCL stopped being remote the other day and I finally got round to testing my spare fob and that works fine so must be batteries (light was faint on the fob too). Exciting stuff I'm sure you'll agree.

For a family sized hatch that you can fit your friends and a weekly supermarket shop into and the fact it only has a 2 litre engine and not a massive amount of bhp on paper it’s crazy what they are capable of! Especially once modded. Hats off to VW.

@Frozennova Ooooooooooooooh, which option did you go for? I was looking at this and the Plex Knock Monitor a while ago. Both pretty pricey but the Phormula slightly less so I believe.

I went for the KS-Pro so I can move it between cars for dyno tuning. I'd looked at loads of options and these come well recommended and are on the cheaper end of the price scale

Edit: Plex Knock Monitor is £650 IIRC. KS-Pro is £330, KS-4 £300ish or they do a package that's the KS-Pro and KS-4 for £550ish

All 4 wheels refurbed and new tyres fitted

Done by the wheel specialist in Nottingham . Wasn't any damage but previous paint finish wasn't wearing well

Hi there, Can I ask what you think to the company and the job done on your wheels by these guys? I am thinking of using them to do my wheels too. Thanks in advance :)

Not a massive amount of power? It has 370bhp...
