What have you done to your car today?

The Estate R I had was even more impressive as an all rounder, due to the 670 litre boot, although it doesn’t look as sleek.
That could carry 4 bikes inside the car without removing the wheels, 3 adults and a load of kit with ease.

Just noticed my drivers door making a clunking sound when opening and closing, there's a bolt loose on the bracket. It's large torx head that I don't have so that makes it even more annoying.
Seat, 6 months old, 5000 miles.Impressive build quality there. :p

Not a massive amount of power? It has 370bhp...
It’s only 310 standard and can be modded up to about 400ish. What I was meaning for something that can hit 60 in under 4 seconds with launch control that is impressive given that is what most 500-600bhp far more expensive cars take to hit 60. On paper 310 sounds like it would be blown away by cars with double the bhp but they are matched by the Golf in the real world

I'm calling bull on that one! Kids bikes but not adults. Unless you can prove me wrong in which case I'll be buying one tomorrow!

This is all I can cope with on my keys :p

Just seeing your key fob laid out like that reminds me of the amount of jokers I now currently see “normally male’s under 30” in cafe’s, restaurants and in the Gym perfectly laying there key fobs like that out to the side of them always with the badge showing to say “yes I drive a BMW, Merc or Audi” :D

It's about par with the RS3 and A45 so about right, surely? I'm not denying it's quick, but it is what it is. Can't imagine other hot hatches are that far behind either... Edit - just checked and yeah the Focus RS is pretty nippy too.

Fitted one of the new wings to the E46, isn't too bad for an eBay pre-sprayed job. I definitely need to have another go at getting the panel more flush with the passenger door at some point, but I was running out of daylight to be able to get it all back together and cleaned up ready for work tomorrow morning. Excuse the dirt on the first image (drove down a road made muddy by people leaving a fire-works display last night) - here is a before, 'during' and after:

Don't forget most 5-600bhp cars will be a good few hundred kilograms heavier than a Golf, and if you keep going past 60 they'll soon disappear into the horizon.

You wouldn't see where my R8 went in the real world, I assure you. :D

Power to weigh is great for short sprints but outright power always wins at daft speeds.

I'm pretty well matched with an F10 M5 at Santa Pod to ~80mph but after that the 300bhp advantage the M5 has really comes into play and it blows past me

As Rodenal said, the wheel arch liner sits inside the inner lip and traps water and dirt in the lip and then the corrosion sets in after x number of years. The inner lip looks a bit more beaten up and broken than it actually was because removing the arch liner (in a not-so careful fashion) broke some paint and metal off in the process. I pulled about a handful of dirt out in total that had somehow made its way behind the arch liner in front of the door. The new wing came fully undercoated and I added some extra in the arch lip before fitting so hopefully it'll last for as long as I have the car.

Might keep the old wing for a while to practice a small bit of DA polishing :p

You can just about see from the photo there is an inner lip where all the crud and moisture gathers then rots them

Mercedes did the same, such a strange design. They all rusted in the same way.

You wouldn't see where my R8 went in the real world, I assure you. :D

Yup, this. I am alongside, just about alongside, gone. It is the high end when you really notice the increased power. I only ever appreciated this once I had this kind of power. R8 V10 is probably my next upgrade path.

I think some of the owners of these new run of rapid hot hatches (1 series, Golf R's, AMG's, Meganes etc) have a deluded view on how quick their cars are. Sure across country they are going to be as quick as anything and hellish fun, but get them on a long fast road and they soon become dots in the rear view mirror as the leptons get serious. The amount of these cars I see trying it on makes me wonder if there is a pill you take with ownership, supplied buy that bloke from the Matrix. 1 series and small AMG Mercs are the weapon of choice of the, erm, weapon. :)

Winter wash is done! Washed, clayed and then used AF Tripple and two layers of Bilt Hamber Double Speed to keep it well protected over winter. I’ll be washing it every couple of weeks and topping up with Sonax detail spray to keep it well protected and shining, as well as giving the underside a good blast down every weekend once the salt is all over the roads!

Focus RS is not even close, 13.5s 1/4 mile VS 11.5s for the Golf, when both are running 370HP.

Golf is much lighter and the DSG vastly quicker than any manual.

Vbox results show:
0-60: 3.1s
0-100: 7.2s
1/4 in 11.3@121mph

Stage 2 Golf R with 370HP.

@Gibbo @Housey

Head to head at Santa Pod please. :p

Would be very close indeed:

Never under-estimate a Golf!

R8 would destroy it from a roll at 100mph plus though, but on a back road the Golf is remarkably easy to drive fast due to its small size, FWD biased haldex and DSG. Its a fantastic tool, just has no soul really and is boring
