What have you done to your car today?

Focus RS is not even close, 13.5s 1/4 mile VS 11.5s for the Golf, when both are running 370HP.

Golf is much lighter and the DSG vastly quicker than any manual.

Vbox results show:
0-60: 3.1s
0-100: 7.2s
1/4 in 11.3@121mph

Stage 2 Golf R with 370HP.
Quite a big gap given the same power output. It seems the DSG is what makes the Golf R as I have seen numerous car magazine drag races and the RS has the Golf beaten in manual form at standard power.

DSG is just such a good transmission. Deploys the power so well. Manual had its dominance for decades but dual clutch gearboxes are just a different level now.

Yes maybe a supercar might leave you for dust on a motorway or autobahn but like most are just way too big for proper b road bashing.

I'm not surprised that a DSG is quicker than a manual, no, not at all surprised.I've been in a few old jap cars with less weight and more power and with a good launch they can be rather quick indeed but no match for DSG. An RX7 with 450 (or was it 400) at the wheels went like a stabbed rat.

I'd be very surprised if any car with 370bhp and LC and DSG wasn't quick tbh.

Don't think I've been in a car north of 550 bhp though :( could that be a good thread? Fastest car you've been in/driven.

People say this but then the Skyline used to get a lot of stick for being a PlayStation on wheels? Has the general consensus changed?

The newer boxes are better at launching a car than the one in my R8. I have never used launch control in it, don't feel the need, but it tends to bog down a bit for the first 40mph. It's over 60mph where it will pull on nippy cars and over 120mph where it will leave them gasping for air. My GT3 was fantastic to launch, so easy to get just the right level of traction and then it just went and with some hard changes it would really fly. R8 is different league however once it gets going.

NA MX5, duhh. Is it a proper one? Details and pictures please! Still have a few ****y little bits like blue HT leads and clear side repeaters and stuff if you want anything...

On a related note, I thought I'd do this before the scrap man comes for it. :p

haha yeah I found your ebay profile already xd was looking at the seats yesterday.

it's a 1994 eunos s special 1.8

in laguna blue, no real mods bar

flyin miata fully adjustable suspension(dampening and height)
roll bars
mx5 parts stainless exhaust

that's it.

imported in 2007, fully undersealed/cavity waxed by mx5 restorers in 2013 and only done 8k miles since.

over-all in a very good condition, paint needs a good polish etc.

I'll take some day light pics tomorrow.

fun thing to drive tho!

Nice, mine was an S-Special 1.8 I think. :p

How much may I ask?

Has some good mods, those are all you need to have fun in an MX5 (as long as it already has a Torsen!) ;)

They are super easy to hang sideways in the wet, I highly recommend it...

I believe all s-specials came with lsd or torsen? but I'll test it out when it gets a bit wetter/greasier ;)

I broke it...

Its almost like you can hear the con rods bending on the first dyno pull yesterday (Notice the 80ft-lbs torque difference at 3,000rpm)

I'm assuming I've probably bend rods or its blown a headgasket but that's probably less likely

oh dear... whats the plan?
Forged rods, clearly!

Tear it down an find out what's actually wrong. I've got this week off to replace the chassis rails so I'm hoping to find enough time to at least get the head off.

Rebuild it with a set of forged rods, new rings, gaskets, timing belt and water pump

Just totalled it all up at ~£600

Edit: it drove the 100 miles home absolutely fine other than slightly elevated coolant Temps (95c cruising instead of 90c) and still makes average turbo MX5 power
