What have you done to your car today?

Put 19s on the zed.

Checked the oil on my e38 today and it’s still reading full.

Pretty happy with that over 5.5k miles on a 17 year old engine (albeit that hasn’t quite covered 60k yet) I’m not aware of any oil consumption issues with the BMW M62 V8 and thus far mine is behaving.

Eh?

255 on a 9.5.

That is a 1" stretch or so compared with stock - Z4s are a 255 on an 8.5J wheel normally. My M5 has a 9.5J rear but is 275 to compensate.

How's the ride on 19s? I thought it had a poor ride on 17s, that was with F1 AS2s all round, so how do you cope with 19s?

Very jealous of the garage though...

Oh yeah, compared to stock z4 yes, the tyre is "stretched" but by most manufacturers spec the 255 width is spot on a 9.5j whereas 275 is "max"

I might drop a 265 once these are worn but the comment about too much stretch is over the top haha.

Ride is a little harsher on 19s compared to 18s but these have 35 side wall so a bit taller compared to your usual 35f/30 rear that many z4 owners have. That little bit of extra cushioning helps, overall it's much better than my previous set of 19s and I don't mind it at all.

The garage is the best thing! After having to work on my cars at the side of the road for two years this has literally made my life a million times easier, I have done quite a bit of work on the mx5 in the middle of the night with heat and light.. in winter haha!

Rear ARB links and bushes done today, was going to tackle the differential bushes but once I had a couple of bits off for a closer inspection they actually seemed to be fine, not ripped like they looked from behind the shields.

Was going to do diff oil too, but seems I need a large hex drive bit that I don't have, my kit only goes up to 10mm and this one seemed to be around 15mm

Cleaned the scuttle panel out as the drainage holes are prone to blocking on these cars, which then leaks into the heater matrix and also kills the wiper motors. Safe to say it was due for doing :o

Many guys run 19s. Some even 20s :)

Changed the oil on the mx5 today, filter can go to hell. Was a pita to say the least.

I resorted to a chain wrench to try and undo mine, still didn't work, just crushed it. So then I drove a massive screwdriver through it and tried to knock it round with a hammer, and that just tore it open... So I had to drive a little groove into the base of the filter and knock it round with a lump hammer...

I struggled to get to it not so much to undo it, the engine brace was in the way then the fuel line was in the way.. managed to get it off and pull it out after half hour of fighting..
