Spent 22 hours over sat/sun getting the chariot back into full go-kart mode.
Namely extracting lower control arms and inner and outer ball joints, lower control arm bushings and nearside front wheel bearing. And replacing the whole lot for new.
Standard BMW control arm bushes extracted:-

New control arms fitted into new polybushes:-

The money shot... wheel bearing/hub, arms and inner and outer balljoints.

Nice :) 22hes though, did you encounter lots if issues? I guess getting the buggers out takes a bit of time.

Tried to push back and resit the front bumper trim on the passenger side, after my wife decided to ignore the parking sensors ("because it was just a shrub").
Sadly, said shrub was overhanging a wall approx 2mm taller than the bottom lip of the bumper...

Thankfully, my wife's mother's ex-husband is a bodywork specialist and reckons £100 and a couple of hours will sort it.

Getting my rod bearings done at the moment in my E92 M3...

Just got a call saying my DCT box was leaking and it's another £600 to fix the leak. That's the best part of £2000 gone. :(

Ouch,
When I was changing the lambda sensor a few months ago I had the trim off and noticed it was seeping but not enough to drip onto the trim, each bolt had 1/4 > 1/2 turn in them to tighten it so hopefully it's been enough.

Ah the rod bearing fun. Be interested how yours look.

What made you change them? Peace of mind ?

Yeh, that's it really. I'm not sure what they'll look like tbh. They'll either come out looking a bit worn but nothing awful or awfully. It's something which rarely happens but if it did happen to me - I would be stuffed. It also seems to be something which is happening more often which I guess stands to reason as the cars get older with more miles on them. Seen three on trailers on the 1000 member FB group in 2 weeks or so...

The car is on 98,000 miles and God knows how it's previous owners treated it. The £1200 for the rod bearings was *just* about tolerable. The extra £600 for the DCT oil pan was a kick in the teeth, especially as I also need new tyres in the next month at £480 for the pair... If he carries on with the rod bearing swap tomorrow and all goes well, I guess the only good thing to take from it is that he gave the car a complete health check and found every other part of the car in excellent order.

I could have bought a decent enough car for the cost of a pair of tyres, 16 little bits of curved metal and a rubber seal with 9litres of new oil on mine :(

Welcome to M ownership. Ha

I’m listening out for mine but I got it at 32k and now on 45k so hoping it’s been well treated. My S2000 started knocking and went at 180k miles so I’m very aware of the potential but my feeing is the ragging from cold. Which is very tempting due to the noise. Mine does sound pretty noisy after 2-3 weeks of not starting but I think that’s all the vanos bits running as my s2000 knocked on start up after a week at an airport. To be honest the oil was telling me something going on from 150k

US seems a bigger problem. I’m wondering if fuel has an effect and the V10 seems worse.

Get some of the used oil as would be interested in having a look. Is yours a 2011+ ? (lead free bearings )

Picked the Landy up from a local garage today, they've fitted parabolic leaf springs front and back. An admittedly brief drive around suggests that the rear of the car is a lot less 'fidgety' when coming over speed bumps and potholes, both of which we have in abundance around here. Need to fit new/better dampers to see what can really be done for the ride quality, but so far I'm impressed with the difference that they've made.

Fitted a torque mount on my S40 T5 but it's also sprung a coolant leak, oil leak and needs the other engine mounts replacing - Doh!

Fortunately the coolant seems minor, looks to be a small leak in a 3 piece hose around the back of the cylinder head. The oil leak is coming from that damn PCV oil filter housing diaphragm that the T5/ST/RS all suffer from.

It's also got a slight rattle at idle too that goes away when engaging the clutch so I expect it'll need a new clutch before long, not slipping at all but I'm guessing this is either the slave cylinder or DMF :(

Pretty sure the rattle is the dmf. Slave cylinder would most likely mean the pedal is stuck to the floor.

Spent a few days machine polishing my mates MX-5 that's used solely for track work. Seen a lot of paint over the years, including some DIY from the previous owner and said person kissing the barrier at Snetterton.

It was covered in swirls, scratches, overspray, faded single stage paint, bird / bug etching etc etc

Managed to get a decent enough finish without chasing the deep marks (I know the paint on these is typically thin), the most important part was getting the gloss back.

As a thanks I've been using it today instead of the 182. What a brilliant car! Been passenger on track but it really is so much fun to drive around:

Can't you use a flex fuel sensor? :)

Sort of, MS2 has a fairly "dumb" implementation which is just a linear fuel and ignition multiplier based on alcohol content, the problem being you have to then pull timing out of the entire table not just the areas its needs it meaning you throw away part throttle power and economy. ME221 doesn't do it at all without it being a Flyin Miata supplied unit at the moment as that was part of their deal.

Swapping to MS3 would be the answer ( It would also give me a few other handy bits and pieces) but its a lot of expense for not much gain ultimately
