What have you done to your car today?

So I had the injector fuse blow again yesterday. Twice in fact. Decided to clean all my earths, make sure they were making contact properly. So sandpaperd down to bare metal, also checked how the ecu was sat in its external holder and reseated it.

Checked all the wiring to make sure there wasn’t any open wiring making contact with the chassis to short, nope there wasn’t.

Popped over to Dreamscience in hull today for the map update to take the rs injectors into account, they also updated my ecu firmware. Seems fine and the car performs much much better. They offered to check my install of injectors and couldn’t fault how it was. They couldn’t give an opinion on why the fuse blew as they never come across it. Really good bunch of guys in my opinion and little things like offering to check stuff really does make me feel like they care.

Sold the Golf. Sad times.

Repaired the Corrado's wing mirror. The mechanism connecting the glass to the motor had broken and the glass wouldn't stay in. Luckily I had a spare set of wing mirrors in my box of spare parts. So I stripped one apart and used it as a donor for the motor and connecting mechanism. I couldn't believe my luck when I realised I had the exact spare part needed :)

Washer fluid empty light came on, filled it with 2L and light still there after 3 drives but 4th time starting the car it finally went off. May be the sensor is on its way out.

Only 2L? Our cars have absolutely massive screen wash reservoirs. Once I've put screenwash in I generally just get the hose pipe, it takes that long to fill :D

M Sport steering wheel to replace the stock one. It has significantly more heft and thickness to it, along with just looking much better

Removed the vac hose on my exhaust actuator. Sounds much nicer with all 4 tips open now...but man it drinks more :D
Oh...and rear silencer delete being done on Tuesday!

Changed the oil, oil filter and air filter on the Corrado. I also repaired a wing mirror where the glass had become detached from the inside housing because of a snapped bracket on the motor. Amazingly I had exactly the right motor and bracket in my spare box of parts. So I was able to strip it down and replace it.

Well technically not today, but last night I did a 500 mile drive to Brittany, France. I managed to smash into something on a motorway and I still have no idea what - it was a very large dead animal that was almost the entire width of the lane and it made a hell of a noise. I was in the left lane overtaking some lorries on the right and there was nothing I could do to avoid it. Luckily there's no visible damage to the front of the car but somehow the back bumper has a crack and there's a load of blood up the back of the car and chunks of meat caught under it :D

However, I carried on driving as the car felt ok, which in retrospect I shouldn't have done. It was ok for the next 50-60 miles until I got off the motorway and then I heard a dragging sound underneath which happened to be the undertray. I ditched it as it was obviously knackered and covered in blood and guts and carried on to the house no problem. The weird thing is that the car wouldn't start at all after that, it didn't even attempt to, no clicking from the starter motor or anything of the sort. Even weirder is that the thing has been starting up absolutely fine this morning. Concerning.

Got off pretty lightly with the damage side of things to be fair. Just a bit concerned about it not starting up last night and then miraculously working ok this morning.

Booked in for some suspension work (all four control arms at the very least) and a new gearbox mount. Noticeable deterioration in ride quality and vibrations in the car since they were flagged by MB back in March. Quoted £800 in total, but I have a feeling it might benefit from new dampers all round too. They're gonna check it over and recommend what they think needs doing.

If anyone else is looking for a decent MB specialist in the Newbury area, I highly recommend Protech in Kingsclere. Taken it to them a couple of times now and they know what they're doing and offer reasonable rates. They usually have something interesting to look at too (SL 65 last time ).

Fitted the steering wheel I had back from Royal Steering Wheels earlier in the week. Much better thickness than the stock wheel, prefer holding the alcantara to leather also.
