What have you done to your car today?

Please add sources for your 'science'.

I have used spacers in the past with literally no adverse effects to my suspension geometry or changing the spring rates (just lol at that). The only thing that has ever changed anything other than the track is replacing bushes, springs and dampers etc. which are major changes and so require an alignment. Adding a small spacer does not change any of the things you're jabbering on about. Don't attempt to sound smart or like you're backing things up with science when you're clearly just making things up because you don't have experience of something.

except he was correct, not his fault you don’t understand kingpin inclination..

Well this is a lot of yap isnt it?
I can tell you, after just having done a particularly spirited drive around some of my back roads that there is a massive change to the way my 5 now handles.
Now its prob the alignment going for additional camber but the front is now very secure indeed, you can chuck it at practically any apex at near any sane speed and it locks on and doesnt **** about. Of course the body roll that plagues the mk4 mx5 is now gone but i can see why mazda did it like this - the car in stock form is more accessible to novice RWD folks - maybe those coming from a hot hatch or similar background. Now its all tight and has a layer of "safeness" removed. The back can come out more readily although on steady state corners you can shove the pedal far far down before the back wants to walk... but equally a heft clutch kick or even a hefty right pedal will move the rear more than before.
But its that front end that gets me now, crikey its a much much more secure and stable car and the front end just nails it.

So its handling brilliantly and prob would still be almost as good without the spacers, however if i was doing this again i would still put 2x 20mm per axle because it feels so "right" after setup.

jeez with that sort of report out it might have hit the heady, if somewhat frequent, “sublime” level.

Well I've been schooled.

Thanks I think. :p

Got me worrying about roll centre adjustment when i put my silly expensive coilovers in my E30 now... Though the spindle and mounting points for the arms and tie rods are all part of the replacement assembly, so maybe they accounted for it?

Supposedly E30's maintain acceptable geometry even when quite low... E30 production cup race cars are pretty low, about the same or maybe lower than what im after. But I cant find out if they have some sort of bump steer spacer installed or not.

My wheels though technically the wrong offset are only 4mm different, ET20 rather than ET24. So despite the messy discussion just now, im not concerned about that.

Jeez, that was a read, anyone would think wheel spacers were tantamount to strapping landmines to your wheels and driving into a crowd.

Whilst it seems the negative effect of spacers committee were correct, why do you act like people should take you seriously? Most people don't know you, or what you do, so when someone doesn't take your word for gospel why does that permit such arrogant responses?

You were challenging people's experiences with supposed facts, and when asked for evidence none (other than someone else chiming in saying the same thing) was produced. You probably know there's likely only anecdotal evidence of the positives of wheel spacers, so that's impossible, yet there is no supplied literature for us goits to educate ourselves with, outside of your gargantuan intellects obviously.

I'd like to disclaim this with the fact I don't currently use spacers, and probably wouldn't but I am genuinely interested in reading up on their evident lethality.

I will be reporting you to the constabulary

Just picked up the replacement for the Volvo. Wheels need spacing out a little more so my bosozoku style grp body kit from japan fits properly, but these will have to do for now.

@grudas you got any more spare?

I can bin a few of these 40mm ones off in favour of a 500mm one I guess.

In seriousness though I do wonder what the largest ones you can get are. I think I've seen 60mm ones before. :o

Reversed into a boulder *facepalm* :o

Thankfully it was just in the dog wagon, haven’t taken a good look at the damage yet but not cracked thankfully.
